Let's stop talking about 'Ring times

I searched around to see if this was going to be a repost, but I couldn't find anything.

This article is over a year old as well as a rather lengthy read, but it will definitely get you second guessing these ring times. (If you aren't already)

Enjoy.

I agree, the ring time comparisons are masturbation and not very scientific.

All I will say is that if my M3 does well on the Ring then it will do well at 50 percent of the speed in Maryland.

It's nice to follow them, but seriously, who buys a car based on them, or any other track times?

Garage List
World class reporting there.

Reporting HvS's time of 7:50 which wasn't an allout lap and which he himselves reckon he would never get below 7:40 at best to later go on to best that estimate to an impossible time of 7:38.

All I see here is someone trying damn hard to make a name for himself, and I disagree on most of it.

The only thing that is unique about the lap times set by each of these manufacturers is that they were either driving by their head test driver or by a hired race driver.

Seems like the reporter guy is a Porsche fan with a bit of a downer on Nissan.
I quite like fastestlaps.com for a broader picture of laptimes and to compare cars.

Personally I think we need to appoint someone to be Lord of the Ring Times.
