Realize it doesn't affect performance, but when I think of the M3...a few things come to mind...and the power dome is one of them. I'm hoping they keep it.
I vote if it is not functional/required then skip it

Figure that ~300hp 2L turbo 4 cyl have been on the market for years. That is 150hp/L. And we know that BMW M has built some of the highest specific output naturally aspirated motors ever produced. I don't know why we shouldn't believe that they could work this same magic on turbocharged motors. The S63 V8 makes just 125hp/L right now (coincidentally, the same as Porsche's latest naturally aspirated H6, as it happens). It may make as much as 130hp/L or more in the M5 (or maybe not, we'll see). The next version of the non-M 3L I6, coming sometime later this decade, is rumored to make as much 400hp. That's 133hp/L. If M can get 160hp/L from 3L around the same timeframe, that gives them 480hp.

I personally think that folks are grossly underestimating what BMW, and M in particular, will be able to do with these turbocharged motors as they evolve them.

Anyone have horsepower or weight specs for the F10 M5? E60 M vs. F10 M should help show the direction M division is heading in.

If the next generation M3 goes turbo, i guess i'll be looking at other car makes. After the N54 turbo issues, recalls, lawsuite...no thank you. I think BMW should stick w/ N/A engines, but i know they are under pressure to conform to environmental standards, compete with better fuel consumption, etc.

I guess i'll be getting a 2011/12 e9X M3 and have the last N/A engine along with my e60 M6 V10

That sounds like a plan.. you'll have the best N/A engine, as well as the bet sounding v10 imo.

E60 M5 never had a power dome. Neither did E39.
