Like others said, E93 will get smoked by almost any decent high performance car due to its extra weight (imagine 10 of the 45lb/20kg gym weight plates in the trunk of your car, that's how much extra weight you are hauling in an E93 vs E90/2).
Secondly, as others have also said, there's no replacement for displacement. Hard to beat 6.2 liter displacement with a 4.0 liter, there's just too much to overcome without spending loads of cash, and even then not sure it's really worth it as there will always be some other stock car that can smoke your ass. Personally I've thought about all the upgrade routes but frankly to blow [pun intended] $20-25k for highly depreciable upgrades - that will also make the car harder to sell except to a hard-core type (so even less liquid), or: put that extra capital towards a new P-car that is cohesive from the get-go. I think that's my route vs next gen FI M3/M4 or upgrade my E92's hp. But then, it's not as if any choices are entirely rational

with the DCT it's not that big of a difference. When I was stock the c63 would win by a half car lenth, that's it. After my mods, I just raced a c63 (not sure if it had the PP) and pulled on it pretty good. I started on 3rd gear and left a car and a half length gap between us. He did have an extra passenger though so it wasn't completely fair.

Tbh i cant imagine there'd be a huge gap between the E93 and e90/e92 m3. Only difference is, mine (e93) has a little bit more weight to lug around, (agreed) and the v8 can be heard a lot clearer.....thats what sold me the e93. I do agree with you with regards to the displacement differences. 6.3L compared to 4.0 is optimistic. Although the road conditions were terrible, (no excuses here, just stating fact lol) i was reluctant to drive it very hard. The M mode/power buttons were also all off, cant see that making much difference though. |

With all else equal, and assuming an 11% weight gain, you're looking at a roughly 3.5%loss in acceleration, which varies as per the cube root of the power to weight delta.
So, a 12.6 goes to a 13.0, and mph goes from 112 down to 108. Roughly four car lengths in a quarter mile, and the coupe is lightly jogging away at the finish. Bruce |

Think something down within tantalizing reach of 12 seconds flat in a quarter mile, at very close to 120 mph +/- with power pack. You're around a second slower than that, and he's running away at the end. To take the latest, hottest C63 on, you'll need a fair bit of money, or nitrous. That extra weight in the convertible really hurts at low and middling speeds. Bruce Last edited by bruce.augenstein@comcast.; 06-24-2012 at 07:46 PM.. Reason: Spelling |

A C63 with the performance pack (481hp) is running 3.7 to 60mph, 8.6 to 100mph and I believe (although my memory might be wrong) trapped 121mph in the 1/4 (C&D tested). The M3 would need a lot of add ons to be competitive with that. A base, non PP, C63 would be closer to an M3 with a tune I would bet.
But, as others have said, no one buys an M3 to drag race. The car is not intended to be the fastest in a straight line but, rather, to be one of the best overall cars... which it does very well.

M3 is not built just for straight line speed. The track or twisty road is where it will out shine a C63. The guys baited you knowing the strength of his car and yours and you feel for it. On top of it yours is a E93 conv. which weighs even more then a E92. So it is a lost cause even on the track.
Any M3 is not cheap to mod. The NA. engine in M3 is expensive to tune. There is no miracle gain from a cheap tune like in forced induction 1M. Quote:

You need test pipes, pullies, full intake and a custom dyno tune by companies like Epic MotorSports or Evolve.
There have been E9x's with these modifications reach over 390rwhp. That'll be plenty to hang with a stock C63 with all your extra weight
