If you are going to keep the car, then yes extend it. You never know when you might need it.
Having an extended warranty is a good reselling point. The next person that buys the car can either keep it or you can "refund" what ever is left of the warranty. |

nice and txs,
your right on the points as well., I know the x/tebd can only be done before the w'tee expires I'm guessing I'm looking at it from a cost POV, I'll have to get some figures and post them up, but wanted to just put it out there ! |

so I pulled my original paperwork.
I paid $3,599 (before tax @13%) for my 6/160. Although BMW gives 4 years so it was actually 2 years (and 80k km) I was paying for I had 3 uses of the w'tee on 3 different occasions 1> Coil pack and spark plug no.2 ***was under the original 4 year*** 2> Coil pack and spark plug no.5 3> Replace faulty eccentric shaft position sensor (threw codes which is how I found it) So only made use of it twice ! That work was no way $4k,I'm guessing the work was about 2K tops (at dealer rates) so dealer made 2k on it. Of course I understand it is more of a insurance policy, but the car was new only having 22k on the clock and now I'm at 83K Mind you I baby the car, check all the fluids, oil change twice a year, I'll change out the filter maybe 3 times during the year Check all the codes etc. I'm not sure about keeping it long term, but I would really like to trade it in for a 2 series cab. If I can get 20k for mine in trade in and find another 20k, which not sure if I can justify it. And while it's still new better to trade it in. The older it gets the more work will be needed and possibility of more expensive work (and of course depreciation) I can't see an extension costing less? Not sure how much I can take it up to. But I'd rather keep that $4k in my bank earn whatever interest over 2 years. Maybe I'll ask... won't hurt thoughts again ? |

I can only tell you my experience with this. I spent $2700 on the warranty when my E63 M6 had 48K miles on it. I did this on the maintenance warranty, as well, which cost about $1500. I ended up going through 2 additional maintenance cycles on the maintenance warranty which saved me about $750-850 over the 2 year period. Here is the kicker...I had the dreaded rod-bearing problem at 72K miles. BMW give me a new, not refurbished...NEW S85 V10 for a total of $54.95. Quotes by others on the replacement at the time ranged from $25K to $50K. This was the best warranty decision I've ever made.
They did the same thing on the i8 when I had a 21 day-long maintenance/repair done. Grand total was just under $11K. I'm a BMW loyalist for a reason. I've saved the cost of another M6 thus far in my BMW ownership experiences. Good luck in your decisions.

Go to your dealership and talk to the parts and service guys. I was in the MB dealership a couple of months ago picking up some lug nuts for my winter rims as they needed a different size them my summer rims. Parts guy says to me how do you like your GLK Blutec and I told him I love it. He replies that they are a great car, but get the extended warranty as they are notorious for going through exhaust systems and the extended warranty is well worth the investment. I had already purchased it when I bought the car, it was $2200, but his advice made me feel good about my decision. If your parts/service guys are good they might put your mind at ease regarding long term issues.....

Are you sure? I think you can get extended warranty if your original warranty is still valid. They don't extend cpo/extended warranties. Maybe call some 3rd party providers? |

I did mail another dealer, (where I originally bought the car from), but not had a reply yet.
It wasn't a certified car, but it was within the 4 year w'tee, think US call it CPO. I can't see them turning down money, so probably are correct. I'd never go 3rd party, I "generally" don't like ext,w'tees. But the BM with my experience has been 2nd to none. Heard too many horror stories about 3rd party places. |

I bought an aftermarket warranty for my 2012 135i in January of this year, right before the CPO coverage expired. I also had the option of buying what's called a CPO Wrap which extended that coverage for another year, but the aftermarket contract was a better deal.

In my opinion - keep up with regular maintenance, pocket the cost of an aftermarket warranty, and enjoy the car. I have not yet driven a 2-series but have read from many on this forum that the 2 is not an upgrade from the 1. Consider that the 228i is a turbo 4 vs your NA 6. If you're concerned now about reliability and cost of maintenance, I'd say you're better off sticking with the 1er until it starts costing you real money and leaving you stranded places. Or else you'll find yourself in that never-ending cycle of trading in your 3 year old BMW because the thought of an out of warranty, late model, turbo German car scares you. |

Nice advice, so far I do look after her, bar the m stickers which according to some have damaged the car beyond belief
And she's been good. According to the specs mine is 228@ 200lb's and 2 series is 242BHP@ 258ft/lbs so a little bit more, not much for sure. But a few more facilities, some design changes and a newer car. (I'd be going for the vert BTW) I should have a look at the post's not actively looked. The reason for the 2 vert as my next car is boot space, when compared with a 3 series vert and price. and agree with your last statement Quote:
