Here's the Z4M battery on the scale:

The Macht Schnell battery tray and Braille would take another 21lbs off this, I'm currently running the B3121 Braille (21lb) on my M3.

I thought that tube on the side of the battery is to divert Hydrogen rather then acid fluids.

It is common knowleage that car batteries produce a fair amount of hydrogen when being charged.
Since BMW batteries are stored in a relatively air tight place, the trunk, in order to prevent hydrogen build-up, a tube was installed to divert hydrogen gas to the exterior of the trunk.
This was done aimed to prevent explosions might be caused by static electricity or a collision, etc.

Other manufactures do the same for trunk install batteries. The 2nd gen Miata is another example...

We recommend the 21lb for iDrive equipped models, 17lb for non-iDrive.

Can you PM me a price for the 21 pound battery please. And do I need to get a case for the battery as well?

It sounds as if you haven't read the entire thread. If not you should. Batteries without the same or very close rating for Ah can be a nightmare....

I think CSL/Mini battery is a good comprimise with 55Ah compared to 90Ah of stock E9X battery.
58lbs vs. 34.4 lbs worth the money.
I am not convinced at 21lbs or 17 lbs 30Ah lightweight batteries.

Not sure if it was this thread or another but problems with the 55 Ah mini battery have been reported as well. Seems like a problem on some cars and not on others. Good luck, do keep us posted.

And not only that (tons of electronics to drive, even with engine off). The weight distribution of the car was designed with the proper battery in place. Many of the drivers complaining for 17 lbs could loose them themselves .

I hope you guys know that you need to register the battery replacement in the vehicles DME when doing this kind of thing.

No, this is optional and did not fix my incessant low battery warnings with the Braile unit I tried.

Battery registration is not considered optional on AGM type batteries - it's required to prevent the alternator from overcharging/venting and ultimately destroying the battery.

Well, the other guys (my supplier) that also does this for a living specifically said this was not required. Also, the proof is in the pudding I would say. I did not do it, had battery problems, did it just to see and the battery problems continued. In other words it did NOTHING.

Read post 167 again. I'm not saying you didn't get a defective battery.

Read post 169 again.

I tried 2 different (both new identical Braille) units so the chances both were defective is miniscule.

I have to say that after reading all of these threads, I'm no longer interested in saving some weight only to gain potential other issues, staying with my stock battery. Good luck everyone

I was set on doing this mod, until i read Cleveland's post #74.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge, Cleveland!

for me, it's not worth the potential downsides. Now if i had the time (i.e. didn't have to work), i'd consider swapping out the battery just on track days. then putting stock battery back in right after getting home from the track.

So whats the consensus on brialle battery for our cars?
Is it worth it if the car driven regularly or not?

not sure if its worth it.. seen several threads and said that will not last on our cars

I almost ordered the OEM AGM BMW battery but since im out of warranty and i drive 7 miles a day my battery might not last that long so i opted out for Sears which is very close to specs... and with 3 years warranty doesnt matter if you drive in short distance or long if it dies in less than 3 years no questions ask they will replace it.

since i dont track my car and dont give a shit about weight savings.

SEARS battery specs
850 CCA
92 AH....

3 years warranty
will replaced if it doesnt work
They will not deny or tell you that you dont drive long enough.. LOL BMW dealer will and will not replace it..
