I tried CG lock a long time ago (well, seems like a long time), and found it to be useless. Now that I know what the effectiveness of the belt-tensioning method is like, perhaps I'll try CG lock again for comparison. I do recall that the people who I track with who tried CG lock universally aren't using them after a few track sessions.

Are you talking about using the a bolt at the top of the seat belt in the back seat?

IMO, I'd rather have these harnesses untested than trying to use the seat belt in varous ways. You're a safer driver when you aren't trying to brace and hold yourself in position.

Yes - unfortunately, there isn't just a bolt, there is the inertial reel for the belt tucked under the parcel shelf that will get in the way. I am in the process of figuring out how to remove the shelf and bend the anchor around the reel. I will dig out a photo from my TIS files I downloaded...I need a friend with a vise and the patience to help remove that trim - it is not trivial and needs speakers etc to be pulled out.

I am guessing this set up will not put any downward load on the seat back in a crash. Until they can certify the E9X seats with 4 point systems attached to the bottom of the rear seats, this is what they have to offer.

So it's the seat that's not cleared? Does that mean an aftermarket seat would work? (Trying to find an excuse to upgrade...)
A fixed back seat would be okay as they have been strength tested/certified. Schroth will be able to be more specific about models

I broke 2 and gave up with CG lock. The lever would fall off and various springs and washers would go flying off into the footwell...I also tried using a baby seat grip cover too...

I am going to go this route. Although it will guarantee I stay planted in the seat, getting out for bathroom breaks, classroom sessions, and in the event of a fiery crash will be challenging.

I would worry about submarining...you'll need some kind of anti-submarine straps!

OK, I see. Why could you not use the mounting point for the LATCH anchors? Would that not be strong enough?

What a waste of lots of perfectly good duct tape!

I've had the sam CG lock for 10 yrs and moved it from car to car when sold. It isn't the best solution but does help keep you somewhat in place. As for it breaking not sure what that's about. Rather simple devise and once installed not much can go wrong. I'm on here too waiting for a true harness for track use.

I don't believe they are - or are not rated at "adult" mass anyway.

The lever fell off mine and the spring jumped off...maybe the CG locks from ten years ago were of higher quality?

I'm no engineer so excuse my questions. Isn't the tensioner is mounted to the rear deck. The middle seat belt in the sedan is mounted to the rear somewhere. I would think that the rear deck should be strong enough to support an adult. Not the latch hooks but they are usually bolted to a pretty substantial piece of steel.

Either way...Schroth just needs to come out with this already. They are already a gen behind.

Me too. That's why I've been waiting on this for so long. I'm starting to question whether its worth the extra hastle to put it in and out or just go with what I'm used to.

I called this morning and spoke to Mike again at Schroth/HMS about the Quick Fit Pro for BMW e9x. All I got was essentially: "Sorry, call again in a couple of months". He mentioned they were still "moving forward" with producing the harness. I asked what was holding it up and he was not forth coming. He explained that Schroth Germany was still "testing" (still testing? wtf?) with lots of long pauses, "aaaaaaahhhhhhs", etc. I asked (again) if it was a certification issue (I asked about FIA certification), but he assured me it wasn't. So when he said "we're in production" the last time I spoke to him - that was, as the English would say, rubbish.

I'm done waiting. I ordered a left and right Rallye-3. I'll figure out the C pillar mounting and post pics...

Cheers.

Edit: I understand Schroth's concern and need to test, even if it has certification by a sanctioning body, and I applaud their striving to make a great product. It's SAFETY equipment. One failure could cost them their reputation and business.

I'm on my 3rd CG-lock so far with the exact issue you described. The lever breaks off (seems glued) and the spring won't stay in place. Flimsy design, at least the current version.

Well...won't be going on today. I have to take off all of the plastic pieces on the front seat and I don't have enough time.
