e92 M3 with Dual clutch tranny ?
Hello all, I don't recall off hand what BMW is calling their version of VW/Audi's DSG tranny, but has BMW released a date when the e92 M3 is going to be released with this tranny yet?
I know they are saying it will go from 0-62.1 mph .2 seconds faster than you can attain in a manual tranny car. That's pretty impressive considering it only has to make 1 shift, and I believe it's going to weigh about 50-60 lbs more too. Does anybody know if the "DSG" version will reach the 1/4 mile in 3rd gear or will it require a shift to 4th? And if it's .2 seconds faster already to 62.1 mph could we expect .3 to .4 seconds faster in the 1/4 mile, or will it just hold the .2 second advantage. Lastly, has BMW set a price for the "DSG" version yet (basically how much more for it than the 6MT car)?? Thanks |

After having a look at this thread it seems like both MT and DCT versions require a shift to 4th for the quarter mile. DCT increases the weight by 44 lbs. Best regards, south PS: the is your friend Last edited by southlight; 02-16-2008 at 01:43 PM.. |

Hmmm. M-DCT weighs 44lbs more...
So the weight difference between an M3 coupe with a moonroof and M-DCT and an M3 with a 6MT and CF roof is at least 90 lbs! Something to think about for the weight conscious. I'll be having the latter. I wonder what the weight difference between the 18" and 19" rolling stock is? Sorry to get a little off topic. |

Always informative. I didn't know about the 44 pound difference. I figured it would be more. |

Don't race with a fattie in the passenger seat. 44lbs? Who cares? The average dude will have shit in the trunk and a six pack in the back seat at least. Now we're down to 30 lbs difference. And what if the DCT guy is racing with 4 galllons in the tank and you just topped off? Semantics I say...don't get me wrong, I ordered DCT but love the 6MT as I had it on my 330i. But I think DCT will prove to be an interesting option at least. Time will tell.

Wow, $2700 more for the MDCT??
Guess they know people will pay more for the performance. It's only around $1,400 more in an Audi And it's only $1,075 more in a VW GTI The DSG adds 51 lbs in the VW/Audi. So the 44 lbs BMW is adding to the weight is right in the ballpark (their 6 speed manual is probably a bit heavier than VW/Audis). But $2,700 Wow, that's a bit steep. In many cars you don't pay that much difference between a V6 and a V8 ENGINE!! What's amazing is there is a $5,700 difference between an M3 Sedan 6MT and a M3 Coupe with MDCT. Again, that's like the difference in price between many car companies small car and their midsize car. BMW wants that much just for a 2 door and MDCT of the same car. Is the carbon fiber roof only on the M3 Coupe? if so that would mostly explain the $3000 price difference. |

Assuming M-DCT works smoothly and your car is not in the shop dealing with technical issues. If it is---no worries---I'll let you ride along with me in my MT.
