I've actually never though of this but it could be a great alternative for those looking for a SPORT tone with different tips and not having to wait 6 to 8 weeks for the SPORT. The universals are also cheaper!

REMUS universals go up to 2.5" inches, look for REV3 in the product title:

how would the rev 3 sound in comparison the race version for the e92 m3?

Much quieter. The square canisters is bigger than the REMUS race while keeping the advantages performance wise of a straight through muffler. The universals would be much closer to a REMUS SPORT in terms of sound than a RACE.
