Good time at NJMP with PCA

Just came back last night from a nice weekend with PCA Schattenbaum at NJMP. It was a three-day event, and reasonably priced for the amount of track time. I did two of the three days, and we hit both Thunderbolt and Lightning. Once again, this car really is amazing. Keeps up for the most part with the Corvettes and Porsches on this type of track, so the deciding factor typically is the driver (there were some E36 M3s going fast and a new GT3RS going SLOW, despite being in intermediate).

Mostly clear and mid-50s the whole weekend. Pretty good for November, and a good way to finish the season. Definitely made up for the horrendous weather at Watkins Glen and Lime Rock in recent weeks.

Video...

Hope this works--NJMP Lightning. I pitted in early to get away from a 15-car train, and ended up on the opposite side of the track from traffic. Nice and clear for a few laps.

One more...

This one is Thunderbolt--again, I tried to position myself on the opposite side of the track from traffic:

Thanks--it's a great facility. I hope their Chapter 11 restructuring is a success and keeps it strong.

I've definitely learned that point-by discipline is much better as you advance up the run groups. See you next spring!

Good stuff - you're flying! You've picked up some speed through the season!

Is 1:38s good time for e9x m3? I dont know because i have not tracked my 09 m3 yet. But my best lap time with 135i on thunderbolt this summer was 1:34.18. The engine is stock for now(afraid to tune it because of overheating issues). The suspension is modded with r-comp. tires. It will be interesting to see what time can i get with stock m3. My track money goes to 135i right now, but i may get just wheel/r-comp. tire combo and track pads for m3 and track it a couple of times next year. We"ll see

I don't know how the Thunderbolt time fares compared to others' time, but mid 1:18s on Lightning is very good IMO!

What kind of tires, though?

I frankly don't know. I've cut quite a few seconds from the start of the season (this is my first). The 135i may be faster than the heavier M3 around a technical track like Thunderbolt, and you may simply be a better/more accomplished driver...

Thanks...Nitto NT01 275/35-18 square setup and Dinan Stage III suspension. Based on the feathering of the Nittos' outer edges, I need to run more negative camber next season.

I have -2.5 camber on the fronts with my NT-01's and that is giving me very even wear ( I have the adjustable GC plates on the front). I corded the outside of my prior NT-01 set at lightening in Sept. when I was still running stock camber...

Have you tried removing front alignment pins? It will give you some extra (free) negative camber. It may still not be enough for tight technical with some really slow corners at thunderbolt though
I am not familiar with nitto tires but i think they have square shoulders and like more agressive negative camber.
Simple pin removal may be enough for fast WGI with high speed sweepers i think I really dont want to start modding m3 after what i went through with 135i. Money is not an issue, its just driveability after heavy suspension mods is not good for daily driving.
I have not tracked m3, but as far as i can tell, it doesnt understeer nearly as much as e46m3 or stock 135i
