Exactly. I think the 4.4L is going to be the perfect engine for this car. The engine, BMW didn't have time to make until now. Personally, I don't think the 4.0 was what BMW engineers were completely happy with. I think the original 4.0 was a rushed compromise.

Would be interesting if future models get this engine during mid-cycle updates.

I just spent time reading this entire thread, and to my amazement, no info on:

Cold weather package - how are they going to heat those seats and steering wheel?
Convinent package - keyless entry, interior lights? What cell systems will be acceptable?
Sound system - Surely it will have woofers, sounds from the stars, and enough insulation to deaden the sound of that big engine.
Are the tires recommended for cold weather driving?
I wonder if they fixed the power steering fluid issue?
What software will the DCT use?
Longivity of brake pads? Covered by warranty?
I don't know, but seems like there will be multible issues with this car.

Otherwise, I think it might be a keeper.

Don't fall into the trap of believing that slapping a bunch of mods on your car instantly makes it as fast as a factory offered package that has been through the ringers (on the ring LOL) by some of the best automotive engineers and test drivers in the world.
I do understand the work needed to integrate a car together. And that's certainly the beauty of factory-tuned cars. But what I am saying is that these "mods" on the GTS are not revolutionary, most of them currently exist in the aftermarket...

+65 hp at 4000 rpm? The 4.0 makes 225 hp at 4000 rpm (assuming same torque @ 3900 rpm which is 295 ftlb per factory spec). A + 65 hp bump gets it to 290 hp, which will have to come from a 31% increase in torque. And a 31% increase in torque means 295 lbft*131%=386 ftlb.

Are you sure a 4.4 can make that? As I recall the M5/6 V10 5.0L makes "only" 380 ftlb.

+65 hp at 4000 rpm? The 4.0 makes 224 hp at 4000 rpm (assuming same torque @ 3900 rpm which is 295 lbft per factory spec). This means the S65 develops 225 hp at 4000 rpm. A + 65 hp bump gets it to 290 hp, which will have to come from a 31% increase in torque. And a 31% increase in torque means 295 lbft*131%=386 lbft.

Are you sure a 4.4 can make that?!
The RDSport 4.6 makes 403lbs torque. I don't see why the 4.4 can't make 386 or near that.

it was just an arbitrary number used to explain a point... the fact is we haven't seen a curve for this new motor we can't tell where it was focused, just speculate.

Some nice stuff on there. Agree that the color could be better.

So it turns out BMW has a sak after all.

Big step in the right direction, just sad to see it's inaccessible to those who need 4 doors and a back seat. They are now in GT3 and ZR1 territory, different group, but I think the GTS will do well.

man, you are seriously on a roll lately! your posts have been a breath of fresh air in all these discussions.

let's not forget that this car will most likely come with a factory warranty. you won't have to deal with aftermarket companies to get something fixed, just BMW. in addition to that, all those people saying the performance specs of this car aren't that impressive need to just wait. BMW said 450hp (to quote: "with a capacity of 4.4 litres and an output of some 450 bhp"), who knows if that is underrated. who knows how well this car will really perform before we get real world numbers.

Not sure about the tech specifications yet, but I think BMW is on the right track and, thus, let's wait and see. (By the way... no AC but the headlight washers from the Winter package??!!?)

On the other hand, I do not really like this color... can the Photoshop (or whatever application that 'pros' use) experts try to bring us some pics in real M colors like Laguna Seca Blue, Dakar Yellow or may be even in Frozen Grey... or more simply in AW???

Well said. The 4.4 Liter V8 will be much less peakier than the 4.0 Liter S65 and it will also not compromise on top end power since the redline is still the same 8400 rpm. That only means one thing, which is more torque across the rev range and a higher overall peak torque. That means much better daily drivability and a much stronger top end. It will also be more responsive to mods and I can bet getting 515 - 520 HP from it will be possible through bolt-ons and tune alone.

Funny how everyone used to b*tch about BMW not making true lightweight track cars. Now that BMW has done it and they did everything right, everyone still found something to complain about.

So many people are saying "too expensive". How do you know the price?? We don't even know if this is going to be imported into Canada and US. For all we know, it will cost 117,000 Euros in germany, which includes a huge a** 19% tax. Cars are very expensive in Australia and Europe. A regular M3 costs around $80,000 euros in Germany. There is no way you can conclude the price in North America by looking at the prices in Europe since the prices are determined independently.

I am willing to bet anything, it will be priced around the same as a GT-R and Z06 of around $90,000 - 100,000 in US. That is still very competitive for the type of performance it offers considering it is supposed to compete with GT3 RS.

im really glad BMW stepped up and made this. i think its great even though im not crazy about the color or the rear spoiler. price arguments mean nothing at this point because we dont know what it would cost us in the states.

the only thing better would be an e90 version.

Porsche fans are so scared when a new car comes up. I remember the discussions (war) GT-R vs. 911 Turbo, an now M3 GTS vs. 911 GT3/RS. Of course the 911 GT3/RS is great and the M3 GTS is not so good but costs the same (irony). But no one asks you to buy an M3 GTS, only just don't complain anymore when BMW will not do such cars anymore as the M3 CSL or M3 GTS.
Wait until GT3/RS gets PDK? Wait until 458 Italia annouces its time around the Ring. The Ferrari looks so much better than the boring 911 (I do love the911 GT3 RS, not 911 GT3). And wait until the MP4-12C anounces its time around the Ring.
My choices:
458 Italia over 911 GT3
458 Scuderia over 911 GT3 RS
MP4-12C over 911 Turbo
MP4-12R over 911 GT2
Wow. I really did LOL. You couldn't of made a better point
