M3--->Jaguar XFR

Guys,

Sold my M3 last week

It's been a four wonderful years, full of thrills. What a wonderful machine the M3 that is.

Now I have my eyes on a Jag XFR, 2010 with zero mileage (showroom car), and a price that I cannot pass on.

I test drove an XFR two years ago, very impressed, just like an M3 but more space and more luxurious.

Who's got any experience with the XFR, please chime in, would like to hear opinions. I am about to pull the trigger on this one.

I don't see how the XFR is any way related to an M3. I drove the XFR and it is a huge boat of a car. Unresponsive handling and a softer ride. Definitely not something you'd want to take on a fun weekend drive up some twisty roads or a race track. Plus there is no option of manual transmission! I would think the direct comparison would be the 5 series BMW, not a 3 series.

The big thing that sold me on the M3 is sports car handling and the manual transmission. Otherwise I'd be driving another car now.

For what it's worth I bought a new 550i last year and had the Dinan upgrade done and exhaust. I thought I would be happy with a fast sedan. 520hp with 580lb/ft of torque it was fast rode great but no fun to drive. I traded it a month ago for an M3 and so glad I did. M3 is what I should have bought. On a side note my 550i chewed up my buddy's XFR . Of course it's just my opinion

If you are trying to get something bigger don't get a XFR unless it's a XFR-S. Otherwise I'd say M6GC, M5, Panamera GTS, or wait until the new M3 for 4 doors.

The price I got on it would put me on a stripper M135i. There is no way I pay a 100k load of money on M6, Panameras and the likes.

Power to weight ratio is the same as M3. Very nice handling and very playful on roundabouts.

I know it competes in M5's class, but not too far off M3's as well, just my opinion after driving both of them.

I drove one 550i, sorry no contest with the XFR in terms of fun and handling.

on the other hand an M3 convertible is just as heavy as an XFR, but with lot less power and torque.

why the hell was the car sitting in the showroom since 2010 unsold? It's not usual for any new car, even an unpopular slow-selling model, to sit in a dealership for close to 4 years. Did it have mechanical problems? Accident damage? Is it an undesirable color or lacks basic options? I'd be cautious. If it was such a great deal how come no one else picked it up for close to 4 years?

In Europe everybody's after diesels, or small capacity petrols. A big 5 litre petrol nobody wants, except for me

It's black on red leather, I just love the combo.

Now an RS5 showed up, just to complicate things

Same price, 2011 year model, red misano on some grey leather, with 23k miles. Unbelievable good looking in mint condition.

What would you guys do now?

RS5 for sure. Almost as good as an M3 to drive. Much better than an M3 to look at and sit in.

The RS5 is soooo good looking, inside and out, I'm really torn.

Drove it a few kilometers only, can't tell much for now, except for much more grip from a dig compared to M3. But a very nice place to be.

I promised to the Jag guys I buy XFR.....

My concern with the RS5 is that owners on the forums sometime complain that it does not make the advertised power 444 hp but much less.

And the carbon build-up obviously, which lead to a loss of power as well, and quite expensive to clean

ive driven one a good bit

its a quick car, feels just as quick as the m3, with a little more low end power

carbon cleaning is cheap anyway

its so much better than the xkr its not worth a comparison imo

More like 500, at least locally in Houston.

It's also only needed every 20-30k miles

Dealer or Indy? On Audiworld right now and members there have been quoted anywhere from $900 to $1500 @ the dealer.
