Best Location for single Wideband O2 Sensor?

I'm planning to install a wideband along with the p3 gauge. Does it matter where I weld the 02 bung? Is there a certain distance from the exhaust ports you want to stay within? And which side of the exhaust do i put it on since we have headers on both sides of the car.

Thanks

Why not just use the AFR function of the gauge and save yourself all that hassle?

😳 LoL good point.. I always thought having a separate sensor for reading afr was more accurate. What's your say? Should I hair installed the p3 and plumb in the boost line and call it a day?

IIRC, the stock O2s are wide bands anyways no? Their readings are just as accurate as with a dedicated setup.

make sure your p3 has the capability to read the a/f.....most don't. if you already purchased you'll have to go through the wonderful process of dealing with p3 to get the correct 'chip'.

Using the factory sensor and location is the best bet as its closest to the header outlet.

I have the turner edition p3 gauge. I just checked the website

https://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-340376-p3cars-vent-integrated-data-display-and-boost-gauge-e9x-328i-335i-m3-2008-2013/?
pdk=AQ

It does not say anything about AFR readings. unless its something that's not stated.

Mike, do you think I can tap one of the aux input wires on the P3 gauge to one of the wires on the oem wideband sensor to get AFR signal? If so would you possibly know which wire to tap to? If this works I don't mind running a wire from the gauge trough the engine bay and tap the wire closer to the 02 sensor so i'm not hacking any main harnesses.

I would contact p3 and purchase the chip that does AFR. That will be cheaper, easier, and more effective.

The aux wires usually use a 5v reference signal. I've only hooked those up to aftermarket gauges, and wouldn't tap into the factory o2 wiring in that way.

i'm not 100% certain but I think it was $75. you have to send an email to them and specifically put in the message "AFR chip/p3" or something like that. i would call them and ask for specific instructions. you then paypal their account for payment.

I just shot them an email asking for this as well, as i have a new p3 but no AFR. Was going to weld in a bung and add my own, but this looks like a much cheaper/easier option.
