Cleaning Wheels/Tailpipes
I have trouble cleaning brake dust off the rims...and I have even more trouble cleaning whatever that black stuff is off the exhaust. Does anyone recommend any specific products for cleaning these specific spots?

I use a BMW Wheel Dust spray, which you leave on for 5-10 minutes and loosens brake dust. I also use this on the exhaust and it works pretty well. I use a product called Silvo (silver polish) on the exhaust every month or so to remove stubborn carbon build up on the exhaust pipes.
I also have the BMW Wheel Brush set, which definitely helps in getting dust off in harder to reach places... Your BMW SA should sell the BMW stuff... |

Wheels: I've had great luck with Maquire's wheel cleaner, followed up by a good scrub with soap and water. I think the key is to never go to long without cleaning them.
Exhaust: I use Brasso. It takes about 2 minutes to wipe it on and off, and the pipes look better than new when I'm done. I'm sure you'll find lots more suggestions in the cleaning/appearance forum too. |

I'll second the Meguiars All Wheel Cleaner. Spray it on and let it sit for a bit. Brush trouble areas with a soft bristle brush (this brush works well to slip in between spokes: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001GJ3ECA), hose it off, and dry.

I use soap and water on the wheels and a wash mitt. P21S wheel cleaner gel is also very effective and requires less effort, but it is very expensive IMO. I use a Mother's metal polish on the exhaust.

I am a big fan of Griot's Garage products and use their wheel cleaner. I use it with a brush and it works wonders.

It also helps to prep your wheels with Wheel Wax. It makes it harder for brake dust to stick to the finish.
