Evolve E-Tronic - Axle Back Only Videos?
Hey folks,
I've searched here and youtube to see if there are any videos of the Evolve E-Tronic axle back only with the M3 in motion and can't find anything. I know that most primary cat delete X-pipes drastically change the pitch / rasp of the exhaust note so finding a video of the axle back only (especially under load) would really help give me an idea as to what this would sound like on my car. Any help would be very appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Videos coming soon.
It's very high on the priority list as you are not the only person who has asked this. Our apologies for not doing this. |

Here is a quick video of the axle back only. We are making some on car ones in the next week. First part of the video valves closed and then valves open.

Yup...that sounds awesome! It's such a big difference between the two modes.

Bare in mind this system is completely brand new.
Once the internal sound deadening material takes it's final position the sound on the loud becomes even more exotic. The quiet becomes more smooth. Breaking in period is a little longer than we had expected. We fitted one system 2 weeks ago. Customer complained about drone on quiet section which was unbearable. He did over 1000 miles in it in a very short space of time and reported that the droning had become hardly noticeable. So just beware of this. Look forward to VS's videos! |

You see that a lot Sal and it isn't that the droning got better but rather the drone trained them to drive around it as much as was possible (keeping revs up or down so as to stay out of the drone range, using either lighter or heavier throttle, different gear, etc.) and they simply got used to what remained that cant be driven around. Please be aware I'm not calling you out here, an exhaust will change its character as the packing settles in and I have not heard this exhaust either before or after it has had some miles put on. Also I think everyone is aware that some people seem to tolerate drone quite well where others will be annoyed by even the slightest hint. Still an exhaust will nearly always got louder over time when actually measured with testing equipment rather than more quiet and volume is integral to resonance induced drone.

Sounds terrific. Have you released the black exhaust yet? Any pictures?

Thanks Sal and Imran! Exhaust sounds great w/o load. Would love to hear what it sounds like under load (driving) from both inside and outside the car.
Cheers!

I am well aware of people getting used to something or adapting.
This is not the case here. It is something we personally experienced on our own M3's and M5's. The drone when new with the full system is at almost unacceptable levels and vibrates the interior. We used to have exhausts made years ago for another car and that was exactly the same. An exhaust will not get louder with time unless the internal structure starts breaking apart or the packing exiting the system. When the system is new the packing is not set in it's final position and will give a deviation from final noise. When we develop we have to use the exhausts for miles and miles to understand how the final product or prototype will actually sound. Quote:

The packing will do the majority of its settling early but will continue to settle for the life of the muffler and never reaches a final state. Most modern internal combustion engines will produce approx. 1 gal of water for each gal of gasoline burned. The combination of corrosive exhaust gases along with condensate is a recipe for corrosion and this begins to attack the mufflers and their packing materials as soon as the engine is started up for the first time with its shiny new cans. Then you have heat cycling, material deposits from the exhaust stream, and sonic deterioration to add into the mix.
Mufflers will nearly always get louder over time when actually measured with testing equipment. This isn't exactly a secret. |

I thought the drone from my previous aftermarket exhausts diminished over time...well not really, I was actually getting headaches and my ears were ringing but somehow I still thought the drone was less. I think it was just hearing loss. I respect aftermarket vendors making an effort to design a liveable exhaust that provides a great sound. Drone is for fart cans, not on an M3. It can be done.
