What a load of crap! They based their entire marketing strategy around the car's performance figures, but then they void your warranty if you ever come close to them...
edit: Nice choice with the 997tt! that will be an amazing machine, and you can actually drive the car without worrying about big brother seeing about how often you launch it! |

Porsche's DME also records and stores all of this data. I think most, if not all, manufacturers now employ this technology. It will also tell the tech. if there were any over revs (on a stick, of course) and what type they were. They are categorized by how much the engine revved past red line. I am talking about mechanical over revs caused by an improper downshift. Last edited by devo; 10-05-2008 at 11:35 AM.. |

I think as a legal disclaimer, every GTR should have "If you do what we built this car to do, you will void your warranty" written in bold print right on the sticker. Let's see how many sales they get then... |

Both cars are awesome. I know, cause I have one of them (997 Carrera S) and am waiting for the other.

The problem Nissan faces seems to be centered around the LC feature. As I understand it, to use the LC you MUST disable the VDC. Yet, customers who purchase the car must sign a waiver stating that if the VDC is disabled, this would void your warranty.
So in essence, Nissan is advertising a feature, that if used, would void that car's warranty. Sounds like a huge lawsuit in the making ... |

Nissan's mistakes
1) The GTR can't be driven as designed or the warranty is voided.
2) The only transmission choice will break sooner or later at a tune of $20k. 3) The cost for servicing (Oil change/Minor and Major service) is very costly. Under non-track driving, every 18K miles = $3K, every other 18k miles = $8k (Brakes). It appears Nissan is taking a page out of the Mazda 3rd Gen Rx-7 rather than the Honda NSX one. I'm glad I bought an E92 M3 |

I guess one of the issue is the GTR owners just cant stop using LC. For the M3s theres a feature where you cant use LC again after a certain miles. I believe if you use 2 LC within couple miles or when the tranny Oil temp is high. it just blows up.
Beside, i know that VDC thing is lame. what would us all react if one day BMW said, you cant disable DSC or it will ruin ur warranty.

So I guess when poeple profile against Nissan as a brand, this is why.
Apparently there is a significant difference between Nissan and the other high performance brands that understand poeple will use what is given to them.

It does appear that the owner may have used too many launches within a close time frame. But, there should be safeguards on the part of Nissan to prevent this. Having the owner sign a document releasing Nissan from liability as the only safeguard is extremely lame, imo.
This is an example of why I believe so many people are so skeptical of the GTR. Nissan wants to post big numbers but voids your warranty if you use LC once. Cars like the M3, or the new 911 have the feature, but its' limited use will not void the warranty. That's because these cars are examples of over engineering products. I have heard other issues with this car as well, like over heating with sustained track use and the premature extreme wear of its' tires. Time will tell if these are true shortcomings or fiction. |

Edmunds called this out way in advance several months ago. The GTR they unofficially tested in Japan had transmission issues during acceleration tests. They said that the weakest link in the GTR will most likely be the transmission. Sounds like they were onto something then...

Well if people didn't pay $20K over sticker they would have it in the bank waiting to buy a new tranny
