Yup...wasted almost half a bottle of SRF when my motive bleeder leaked.

So this works better than brake fluid? I'll have to try it! I wonder if Bud light will save some weight.

If you thought getting all the bubbles out was hard with brake fluid...

Your screwed if someone starts rocking your car...your brake fluid will foam up and then explode if you open the cap.

If she is not mechanically inclined, make sure you here clear instructions of what to do and what not to do. My wife is awesome at many things but not at being a brake bleeding assistant.

$75-$79 seems to be the going rate for 1 to 2 bottles (1 L). Local may run you $100+.

So I installed my Stoptech as planned and since you will be doing the same thing as me, I figured I could show you some of the pitfalls as it is still fresh in my mind. I would assume you have a ratchet set, and other than that all you will need is a 5mm allen wrench and 1/4" tubing for bleeding the brakes.
  • assuming you have the wheels off the car and it is on jackstands
  • there are 2 bolts that hold the calipers onto the suspension - I would recommend hitting those with PB blaster the night before, these are the hardest to unscrew, also hit the hex screws on the caliper to make it a little easier
  • unscrew those 2 bolts, and even after 12 hours of PB blaster you may have to take a hammer to it
  • ***** go buy a brand new 5mm allen wrench - I would highly discourage you to use a non-metric set - i was lazy, did not do that, and ended up stripping the LAST screw; and had to got to Home Depot and BMW to fix it
  • take off the 2x 5mm hex bolts that fasten the rotors to the hub
  • find a 2 foot piece of wood and depress the brake pedal 2 inches - thank you everyone for this tip, it worked amazing!
  • unscrew the brake lines directly from the car, not from the calipers, it is much messier if you unscrew them from the caliper
  • installation of the new BBK is one of the easiest parts, start with the piece that attaches the calipers to the suspension (the 2 hard screws from before)
  • test fit the caliper and see how much of the dust shield you have to trim, or just pull the whole thing off
  • put shiny new rotors on with the 2x 5mm hex screws, be thankful you didn't strip this screw the first time, haha
  • compress the brake pads and install the calipers - dont forget to put the bleeders facing UP!
  • before doing anything else, be sure to drink a beer and admire how good the brakes look even without everything finished
  • screw in your new stainless steel lines and make sure you have routed them the right way so the rubber ball fits into the OEM spot
  • use 2 wrenches to tighten the brake lines all the way down
  • assuming you are starting on the brake that is furthes from the master cylinder, bleed it...
  • the first new brakes you will do will take the longest, after the first caliper, they will take much less time and fluid
  • I only did the fronts but was worried air may have gotten in the system so I bled both rears and there wasn't a single air bubble
  • Enjoy your BBK!!!!

Oh yeah, these things are amazing, here are some teaser / iPhone pics. You have no idea how good these look with track wheels mounted!!! [drool]

Actually, you are both right. Wash the rotors with soap then hit the rotors with brake cleaner, as per Stoptech.
