Fun with a GT3 at PIR
He was ultimately about 3 seconds per lap quicker than me, but this is fun to watch anyways. This is an '07 GT3 with track tires and not much else. Of course I'm in my stock M3 with PSC +N track tires and track pads.
Video is using Harry's Laptimer with Tom Tom cradle. Not bad for an I-phone app. I changed the mount at the start of the session and forgot to calibrate, so the G-Meter is off- my bad.

Nice video. I agree, chasing fast cars is a lot of fan, especially if you overtake them. GT3 is a great car and can be stupid fast in the hands of a capable driver, but that white gt3 was not using curbs and was all over the track from what i can see in this video. You took that video with your iphone? I just got my new ipnone 4 and have no idea how to use it at the track. If you dont mind, can you briefly tell me what else do i need to buy and how to hook it up?

As far as Harry's Laptimer, it is very cool! Just look for it in the I-Phone store, you should add a mount with a GPS reciever- the Tom Tom works well and is compatible, and then just read the instructions. There is a thread here on it for more information.

Not for HPDE's that's for sure! Maybe for professional events, but none that I know of...

Now that the back half of PIR is repaved and widened there is very little chance of kicking up anything. To do so would mean you are way off line, and probably going to continue going off!

That looks like Roy. He is from Socal so that I might be his first time to the track. He typically runs Toyos R888 so did he switch to slicks???

I said track tires, but not to infer slicks, they were grooved tires, not sure what brand, perhaps they are his everyday tires, I just assumed they were track day rubber since the car was transported up for the HPDE, but I could have been mistaken. I wouldn't be surprised if the last session he was under 1:30 after warming up and dusting me off!

The back section was repaved in 2008- so depending on the last visit, you may have already seen it.

Will somebody post a link to the type of TomTom mount being referred to by Montoya?

Thanks! Shockingly expensive for a mount and a power cable!

One quick question, does the disc have to mount to the actual iPhone?

You need to read the advertising again: it's a GPS receiver and a mount and a power cable. The high speed/high resolution GPS is what makes it worth the money.
It's an iPhone/iPod only system. Won't work with anything else, and the TomTom ap from the app store is an excellent general purpose navigation app. |
