David "M" Aviles - M Sales Award 2011
Ok so I'm not quite out of the woods yet with all the work I have to catch up with and the new requests coming in. But I did want to take a moment to post pics from my perspective of the M Sales Award in Miami. Having won last year I can truly say the generosity and attention to detail displayed by BMW M in Miami was over the top. Each day I would shake my head in wonder at the attention to detail that was taken to thank the best of the best for a job well done.
Here are my highlights with some comments about each picture. You will get a taste but really had to be there to understand what an aMazing experience it was. I am so grateful to be part of company that is as dedicated to their employees as they are to producing the finest automobiles in the world. All the best, David "M" Aviles #1- As if you already did know, and Top Gear didn't already give a stellar review... The M5 is driving nirvana. I was in a line of 1M Coupes in turn 3 at Homestead Raceway doing about 120mph and the M5 blew past on the inside like we were standing still. It was a Monte Carlo Blue blur that just kept pulling away. #2- We were welcomed to the track with this M Powered fly by. It was incredible listening to all those horses scream by. Very impressive preview of things to come. #3 & #4- M Power waiting to be unleashed. The 1M was a very nice surprise. As everyone here knows the US only received 500 for sale. To see a fleet of 1M Coupes for us to drive was another dream come true made possible by M. I knew the M3 was going to be a lot of fun but the anticipation to fire up the 1M was greater because I've only seen them a couple times in person. The first time was in Miramas at BMW's "Area 51" next to the Jeff Koons M3 GT2 Art Car. I won the M Sales Award that year but they weren't handing over the keys for track use that day. They did at Homestead. I loooove 3rd gear in the 1M! It really pins you back in your seat. For those that think the engine is "just a modified 335is engine". You are wrong. I leased a 335is for a few months and the way the engine responds is not like 1M Coupe. The best way I know how to put it is that the 335is responds quite well to your accelerator input, but the 1M anticipates your input and is already one step ahead of you when you step on the gas. The way the 1M pulls and feels composed on the track when you're making full use of the power band makes you clearly understand why one BMW dons an M badge and the other doesn't. #5- The Three Amigos. Cast in order of appearance. Ryan aka L.A. Dawg, your's truly, and making a cameo appearance is Farmer Fran from The Waterboy, Special Teams Coach for the Mud Dawgs. Watch this video to be formally introduced. . This guy, (real name Mike) killed Ryan and I the whole time in Miami. We gave him a hard time about the resemblance but he was a good sport and played along. Awesome guy! Ryan is a cool cat too. We had a great time together and were inseparable at Homestead. He's a great driver too. I can't wait until the next time we can all get together. Thanks again guys. You really made the trip memorable. #6 & #7- The M6 Convertible makes one hell of a first impression. It was driven into the award ceremony by Dr. Nitschke and Brian Watts. The engine sounds better than the V10 to me. San Marino Blue looks incredible and the wheels look way better in person than they do online on the configuration tool. The build your own tool doesn't capture the aggressive stance of the wheels. The M6 got a standing ovation as it made it's entrance. #8- Check the trophy out! What a great idea that was!! How appropriate for the best in M Sales to receive one of those bad boys! Get a closer look here at 0:27 Again all I could do was smile in amazement at the thought that went into recognizing us. #9- Ryan and I enjoying the hospitality. See the cigar in Ryan's hand? They had a guy rolling cigars at the party here at the Clevelander. This place was first class. They flew in a whole pig from Cuba for us that evening prepared by none other than Celebrity Chef Brian Aaron. Not to mention open bar at every function. I'll post some video next. Enjoy! Congrats!! But for a second I thought the trophy you were referring to in that pic was the M6 Coupe behind you!

Without a doubt the M6 would be a handsome reward, but I am still enjoying my Fire Orange M3 from last year's award. We'll see about next year though!

Yeah, I saw that in the vid! I'm surprised they'd have a whole car as an award some years and not others. Looks like you had an awesome time, well-deserved!
