I have a GTI and it is really really fun to drive - but when I tried to take my favorite 100 mph freeway sweeper (with a little bump near the end) , easily done in an e46 M3, 535ixT, S4, etc....it got a little scary.

I live in Phoenix. All roads are straight, smooth, paved, fully monitored by traffic cameras, and bumper-to-bumper traffic most of the time. You cannot possibly take any car to its limit under most ordinary driving circumstances. Nor should you, really.
It's funny how people get worked up about being beat by "a full car length" from 0-60 or half a second on the quarter mile... Honestly... is it relevant unless you're trying to win at the track? No. I love my GTI. Mainly because I barely see any others on the road, and for 23k I get just as wide a smile as I do in my fully modded E46. That said, the new M3 is growing on me. And personally, I don't like the four door deal, so the IS-F is not for me. But honestly, it probably is a better overall car. |

As a person that feels EVO get more results right than wrong I found there latest review/comparison between the IS-F and M3 Coupe interesting if a bit surprising. For those who haven't read it they basically found both cars to close to call, depending on which car they happened to be in got the vote until they tried the other.
Meaning in their opinion Toyota have done with their first attempt which BMW, Audi and Mercedes have been trying to do for years, which was build one of the most exciting sports saloons available. I would love to here Steved's comments on this review to see if he shares them. In any case, well done Lexus. |

Surely we are not so narrow-minded to think that BMW can solely make sporty car, I don't think so, we are all too mature for that.
By the way I don't actually agree with EVO's findings in case you wanted to know. Last edited by footie; 04-05-2008 at 06:33 PM.. |

I guess the survey results answer the original post. M3 wins 70%.

Fender vents are functional, but yea the other design elements are I could live with those but that bulge on the hood is out of place and is not designed well. I like the m3's power dome a lot better

The M3 smoked the IS-F around the Reno Fernley Raceway in the Motor Trend comparo. M3 sedan - 154.2 sec. IS-F - 158.6 sec. The IS-F got SPANKED by 4.4 seconds. http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/.../photo_16.html If you want straight line speed get a C63, it crushes both the IS-F and M3. And the C63 had a quicker lap time than the IS-F. |

Motor Trend on the ISF sept 2008
steering "really loses sensitivity when honking it" "but the car understeers heavily at the limit" and the "wheel feels disconnected at that point". and it "plows hard" when pushed. and inside "the nav screen and buttons come right out of the Prius".

WOW! not kidding sayemthree
and I agree on the Nav Screen +1 plus the spouse mentioned that Lexus, or most car brand doesnt age well unlike Benz and Bimmer. To test, look at any car on the road, can you distinguihed its year or ERA or significance in the automotive world. I could with a Benz or a Bimmer put highly unlikely with any other. I guess its just oversimplication, that applies to any enthusiast, like Ford or Chevy guy. Quote:
Oh! Well.. my e46 M will be unloaded soon and with it comes the extra cash I can put away, while I search for my next automotive viagra.... ... what comes to mind next is the c63. My foot pedaled me to our nearest Mbenz dealer the other day, dissappointed that there wasnt one savailable on hand. Soon the dealership will get their first pre-ordered one, so I asked to be called when it arrives. The c63 at $63k its elegantly equipped, and have asked myself if Im ready for a change. The M3 still excite me, but it just annoying that what comes with the car is the rigthful pompousness automatically assigned to the gearhead that drives one. And how do I know, seem like every M3 driver I meet on the road is automatically a brother that grins to suggest "You wanna do it? Thanks for you iImpressive c63 notes btw wonder how it would fare on the race track, mano-o-mano ? Next target research, the C63! Onward we Go!

A few magazines already have the answer to this, M3 is the clear winner.
