And yes, it was a great review, and one I hadn't seen. Thanks for posting.
I said fully optionned or near, that would include extended leather and premium audio.

Smile M cars - a special car love

Greetings,

I like the article and agree with most of it. I want to add that for me I know there will be certain weird little things about owning my M car that other people who do not own one would find odd in putting up with.

M cars in general are cars sought after by true car guys, enthusiasts that know that having and owning a high horsepower/high output car comes with some idiosyncrasies that you have to just be willing to accept. Here are few I have noticed;

1) oil consumption - not much, but enough I always have a quart with me.

2) cold mornings, cold start - she likes to get warmed up properly , else shifting can be somewhat less than elegant.

3) 14 mpg and a 16 gallon capacity - meh, not a big deal - comes with a 414 hp na engine.

4) as long as I drive with 'driving type' shoes (soft, thin, flexible sole) all my shifts, even 1-2 are buttery smooth. When I have worn thick hard dress shoes, shifting is not as smooth. I get why people wear 'driving shoes' now.

5) everything - everything is expensive, again don't care, the pleasure and the way I feel when driving my M3 is priceless

6) feeling the gaze of envy from other drivers - sometimes nice - like last summer when I was driving and a pretty girl passing by in another car said 'nice ride babe' - (this actually happened!!), other times you can tell people are just plain jealous and mad at you for owning one . Little do they know I worked my a** off to get one - and am always thankful for owning one too.

Cheers,
Merlin

Try size 12 steel toe work boots. A few times I've got my left boot caught between the clutch pedal and the bottom of the dash... doh.

Gas mileage could be better. I mean the ls7 7.0 liter gets almost 30 mpg highway.

His exact comment in the article was "These cars were $70,000 new, sometimes more depending on options. ", nothing about a fully optioned car, and my point was that a mid-optioned E90 6MT was easily a 70k car, not 80k, so your quibble with the article didn't make much sense.

Nice article. Not a fan of those red tow straps coming out of the tow hooks, a little too ghetto and ricey, imho.
