E92 M3 vs M4
What are your thoughts on the performance difference between the two cars? Yes I know we have yet to see any real numbers (dyno's, 1/4 miles, 'ring lap times) so this will be largely speculative, but with the recent M4 technical details release I think we all have a pretty good idea of how it will perform. Clearly it will be quicker to 60, 1/4 mile, etc... but by how much? Your thoughts?

Off-the-line speed (0-60, 1/4 mile, etc) is a function of traction, so it will largely depend on driver/tires/conditions.

Tons of threads already. I'm more interested in seeing a DCT vs. Manual thread. I don't think anyone has done that.

Knowing what the BMW has done so far, the new M3 will be a beast.
I'm a person who still hates the new M3 platform (minus the weight change), but after observing much talk and debate, I'm actually glad that the new M4 is built that way. The way of power delivery will be completely different, both in good and bad ways, and hence the feel to the driving will be very different. But to the turbo-wannabe M3 fans, this new M3 will still be disappointed in 0-60 performance. It will be slower than C63 AMG, it will most likely be slower than the new C63 with turbo engine, and of course the GTR. Going back to my point, M3 has been at its best with sharp suspension, strong chassis, NA engine with throttle body, making it the perfect track car, in that the power + chassis+ suspension works harmoniously to not only having so and so power but more importantly putting that power down on the road. This was the M way, at least from the beginning till the E9X days.

"Chris Harris took some keys of the new M4, but is it any good? I suppose the only way to know is to compare it to.. let's say a E92 M3. Yeah that'll work."
We'll see it soon enough.. Don't worry. |

Turbo cars > N/A cars. The difference will be significant in acceleration but I would like to know the difference in steering feel and input. I feel as if the E9x M3 model could have benefited from a heavier steering feel.

other future favorite threads M4/M3 vs 435xicsl///M and
why the F80/82 suck versus the 435xicsl model in truth we know the E9x platform is the best. MartinD and Nelson proved it by making those crazy cars and then BMW Gmbh decided to follow what they did. BMW M group will again look to MartinD and Nelson like car lovers to further evolve the next series which will be no where as great as our E9x. |

With only 50% original parts, it wont be as big a performance gap from the 435i ---> M4 as there was the 335i----> M3.
It will also feature numb electric steering and turbo farts. I dont care about shaving .3 seconds off the 0-60 time like most the drag racers here do though. |
