Ready for the 3-series GT

http://www.motorauthority.com/previe...ssover-v3.html

Quote:
BMW has just taken the wraps off its new 5-series GT, which goes on sale early next year and shares its design with the next-generation 5-series sedan also due next year. If the vehicle proves popular, a smaller version based on the next-generation 3-series sedan is expected to be launched in 2011.

Picking up the 3-series GT moniker, the car will feature the same raised seating position and ride height as the bigger 5-series GT and will also likely adopt a two-tier rear hatch design. It will come with both RWD and xDrive AWD configurations, with power coming from a range of four and six cylinder engines. The computer generated rendering above gives us a preview of what the new car may look like, revealing that it will share the aggressive new look that’s being implemented across BMW’s lineup.

Speaking with AutoExpress, BMW CEO Norbert Reithofer stated that his company has not cancelled plans for a 3-series crossover as it’s “considered a volume builder with which we [BMW] can earn good money.”

Designers will be stressing the car’s coupe characteristics just as they did with the X6 and new 5-series GT. Expect to see extremely short overhangs, pumped fenders and sporty alloy wheels. Pricing will also reflect the car’s positioning above the standard 3-series on which it will be based. Along with an upcoming replacement for the X3, it will give BMW a vital rival to Audi’s A4 Avant as well as the upcoming Q3 SUV.

IMHO the GT is retarded looking. I'm not blaming BMW. They are simply making what retarded people (especially Americans) want to drive. I just wish retarded people didn't want BMW's so much...

The 5 GT has made the X6 look much better - what are they thinking?

Definitely not loving that....Is it just me, or does the rear remind you of the Pontiac Aztek? And we all know how popular that vehicle was.

BMW GT

Not for me but comparing it to the Aztek is just wrong.

The read made me go "alrighty then". The pic made me go "unt uh".

What a waste of Aluminium, Steel, Plastic and other things. That 5 Series and others that follow it's vein are hideous and really beg the question, Why would anybody buy them?

I think BMW needs to go back to their roots and spend more time with the design and quality of the next 3 Series, the current one is a bit lacking...

BTW: Also stop selling Badges that happen to be attached to cars, they dont really cut it and you will soon find what cachet you have left gone.

The X6 and the 5er GT grew on me. They're weird looking but that's what I love. You guys need to remember that this picture of the 3 is someone's opinion of what it would look like.

I think a hatchback 3 series with (possibly) more leg room in the back would boost sales even more. Some people opted for a less equipped 5 over a well equipped 3 based on the room in the back. As long as this 3 GT doesn't weigh a lot and still performs the same, I wouldn't mind owning one.

Smart move on BMW's part as the gas price increase and sudden focus on the environment prevent people from ever purchasing a full-blown SUV simply out of guilt.

The crossover is a perfect compromise for people who really do need a SUV but don't want the stigma of buying a gas guzzling, smoke spewing, SUV.

Bye bye SUV, hello crossover. Doesn't really matter considering 99% of SUV owners never took their "precious" further than the asphalt where going over a non-paved gravel road is considered off-roading.

The SUV was an abomination and should never had existed. Want the room and space of a minivan but don't want the soccer-mom image? Crossover, here we come.
