How To Delete Shark Fin on E93?

So my CA has configured/ordered my 2009 M3 E93 (now status 111), but can't figure out how to delete the shark fin antenna on the trunk lid if I didn't order Satellite radio. On the 335i E93 it was option ZPD, but no such option on the M3. Anyone know how to do it?

Why do you wanna delete? I've heard a lot of E92 guys who wish they could have it on trunk vs the roof!

The shark fin is also the AM, FM & telephone antennas. Factory delete is not an option.

Are you sure? That was not the case with the 335i E93 (ie, I believe those antennas were in the rear window glass, Navi antenna was in the windshield).

I'm not ordering HD or Satellite radio (ie, iPod and FM suits my needs).

Yes, you are correct. The Sat Fin on the E93 is only for the Satellite radio. Its much small than the fins used on the other models. Unfortunately, however, all USA cars are pre-wired for Satellite radio, so therefore you get the fin. Sorry ....

So where are the AM/FM , Nav & telephone antennas? The radio antennas can't be in the rear window, because it is in the trunk with the top down.

FM is in the rear bumper, but AM/FM is also shown left/right rear passenger compartment?: http://bmwfans.info/original/E93/Cab...5/ill-65_1770/.

Not clear where GPS is (dash?): http://bmwfans.info/original/E93/Cab...5/ill-65_1768/

Could not find phone antenna.

Before the days of shark fins, the GPS antennas were put in either the front dash or rear parcel shelf.

Apparently with the E93, its got some clever system of switching to another FM/AM antenna when the top is down

Finally, the cellphone antennas are often put in the rear bumper, along with the TV tuner antennas, should it be ordered with TV (Euro only of course).

Since you are getting AW, just have the dealership trade your decklid for one off a 335i in their inventory that has the ZPD option. The badge swap should be simple to do.

I am in the same situation. No satellite, no HD but it looks like I am getting the shark fin. I think it's ugly as sin. If anyone figures out how to get rid of it please let us know.

Absolutely Not!!!! The 335i E93 decklids come with the infamous Fluttering/Buffeting Noise (I know, I had one): http://http://www.bimmerfest.com/for...d.php?t=218612 >942 Posts , >45,989 Views to date

Ouch, that's a whole lotta drama in one sentence, especially this early in the morning.

Anyway yeah, heard a little about hat. But, I hope you aren't honestly under the impression that the decklid on your M3 will be different somehow. Are you? If someone from BMW or your dealership told you that then I hope you got it in writing.

Now, if no M3 exhibits this symptom (which might be the case at least thus far, I'm not sure), then it is because of some difference between it and the 335 other than the decklid. That or BMW has a new part for the decklid to fix the issue (I strongly doubt), but this part will have been used on both M3s and 335i's now anyway. In either case a lid swap is still a good proposition. The reason why this has to be so is that the decklids are the exact same part. This is one of the few M3 body panels shared with the 3 series. That much is fact.

Another suggestion is to order a new decklid from BMW. However, the same thing applies of course - its no different than a 335i decklid.

Sorry for the emotion, but I've gone through ~1 year of hell with the dam fluttering/buffeting noise that BMW's SIB did not fix. Oh well, no longer my problem

No, after my 335i E93 experience I would not trust either BMW or my dealer's promise of no noise. I've contact several 2008 M3 E93 owners and had them perform the test. So if in fact the M3 E93 deck lid is the same as the 335i E93 deck lid (and I don't think that is true, especially for the 2009 M3 E93), something has changed because the 2008 M3 E9s owners for some reason don't experience the noise.

Well, like I say, if the decklid for the M3 is different, then they will start using that same piece on the 335i at the exact same time. Absolutely no reason not to. I strongly doubt it is different though, really. If the M3s really don't end up with this problem (which could very well be), then there is something else different about the M3 that has fixed/alleviated it. It could be anything at all, including things that are just different about the M3 in general such as the suspension/drivetrain or rear fender body work.

Anyway, the point is, no reason to avoid a 335i decklid (as long as its a current one, going on the off chance that they did change it, which again, I doubt), unless it is just because you are superstitious. That particular piece of the car is almost 100% certainly not the root cause of the problem.
