Insurance?

So I'm shopping around for new Insurance and I'm curious about Esurance. Does anyone have this Company? Are they any good? And if not what's a good insurance company you would recommend? Thanks

I'm with allstate and I love it. I have my ATV, house, renters insurance, my M3, toyota avalon and toyota tundra all bundled into one. My agent is also local so if there's anything I need I can walk into his office a block away from mine.

I've never used Esurance, but my buddies that use them haven't had any complaints. Then again, they haven't been in any situations to use their insurance, so that doesn't count either, I guess.

Allstate owns assurance now....so if there ever was a concern that Esurance was a "fly by night" company that wouldn't be there when you need them to be, should not be an issue now.

Esurance has been owned by Allstate for some time. A little bit of research would have showed you that.

just be careful a lot of those bargain brand insurance companies screw you over if you get in a accident. In that I mean most of them if you get in a accident will not replace your car with factory OEM parts but instead they will with non OEM parts which they say they will warranty however BMW does not recognize those parts under their warranty.

Just my 2 cents. make sure you get that you want BMW OEM parts replacement only in writing. Our dealership works with Farmers and I was personally with GEICO for a couple years till I found out this little tid bit of info when I had a fender bender with one of my cars. Now Im with Farmers as well now.

I wasn't interested in e-surance so why would I research that?

While this is true there's not many aftermarket parts for the e9x m3 and most times they'll replace with oem or LKQ which are used parts

Correct. they won't replace with "brand new" OEM parts. I can't comment on every insurance company just off what I experienced with GEICO. The rep wanted to replace my bumper for the x5 with a refurbished part. I declined and canceled my insurance with GEICO that day.

In 20 years, I've gone from AAA to All State to GEICO to State Farm to Liberty Mutual then back to GEICO. Personally, I like GEICO because it's inexpensive but they are not cheap when it comes to repairs. GEICO will use OEM parts when you have the repairs done at the dealership or high end shop. Just make sure the shop knows you only want OEM too.

My friend had an accident and the local shop replaced them with OEM parts and AAA paid for it.

Amica Mutual. I've written all of the reasons they're amazing too many times to do so again in yet another insurance thread, but if you Google "Amica jphughan site:m3post.com", you should find one -- as well as a lot of other existing threads that already have the information you want.

A friend of mine switched from Amica to Esurance before he realized that Esurance wouldn't cover HPDEs, whereas Amica's policy (at least in Texas) only excludes practice or participation in organized racing or speed contests.

Don't go with Esurance; it is owned by Allstate. Allstate is HORRENDOUS when it comes to pay a claim. They are consistently rated the #1 WORST insurance company in the US. Look it up if you don't believe me. I work in the p&c insurance industry, so I have personal experience with a lot of different companies.

Like so many things in life, you get what you pay for.

+1. Stay away from Geico.

I've heard nothing but bad stuff about them ever since they decided to do me wrong (after 5 years with them, 0 tickets and claims). They also screwed my friend over with his E39 M5.

I'm about to get my bumper repainted because it looks tired and the guy I'm using said Geico refuses to use proper OEM paint for repair. FYI, he said the good paint costs hundreds of dollars per liter. That bodyshop actually dropped Geico because they did things like that all the time.

I have had nothing but the best experiences with Allstate + Geico. Not sure where these bad reviews are coming from.

Why would you care? I hear you but BMW refurbished or re manufactured is often used BH BMW for warranty repairs. Not like its third party refurbished

^^non BMW OEM parts are not supported by BMW warranty. Yes you get warranty from the insurer however that does me no good if BMW doesn't recognize the part.

in my particular case the parts that GEICO was trying to suggest for me would not fall under new OEM parts so I opted to just pay for it myself through the store.

example: car gets in accident and geico replaces say a radiator with a non brand new OEM part well your screwed bc if something happens to say the coolant system your out of luck with BMW factory warranty once they trace it back to a non factory part from GEICO. So that non OEM part which is not warrantied through bmw is a ticking time bomb

Refurbished parts from BMW direct are a different situation, those could be C.O.R.E pieces etc.. I won't get into that bc I am not an expert on that stuff sorry.

Once again I can only comment on my personal experience with GEICO, end of the day you can do whatever you want and go with whoever you want

I worked for Esurance before.

Yes, Esurance is owned by Allstate but the two companies are COMPLETELY separate. Esurance is in San Francisco and the CEO is the founder of the company which started in 1999 - he is still running the company today. Esurance was the first to offer online policy sales and was part of the "dot-com" startup boom of that time. It is the first company to sell insurance exclusively online and a lot of traditional insurance companies hated that as it cut out agents and they can sell for a lower price.

Allstate acquired Esurance but Esurance is run totally separately. They have their own call centers, claims centers and policy underwriters. Even the policies themselves are totally different. It is part of Allstate's strategy to differentiate Esurance's offerings and the agent-based policy sales that drives their Allstate business. Even company culture is different. Esurance is very much a tech startup kind of environment with scenic trendy waterfront offices in San Francisco. Allstate is very traditional insurance agency model.

As for Esurance's policies themselves, read up on it. I haven't used their insurance before even as an employee so I don't have first hand experience.

But Allstate is totally different than Esurance. They have to add "Esurance an Allstate company" because Allstate bought them but otherwise they are two totally different companies.

There is nothing in GEICOs policy that states you must use oem or non-oem parts. It behooves you to make sure the shop is also on your side with that

I have only brought my cars to dealers or dealer suggested body shops for insurance repairs despite the insurance company telling you to go to a GEICO approved shop. I imagine that if you don't mKe it clear that you want oem parts, they will try to go as cheap as possible. This isn't just with GEICO but with all insurance companies.
