When I was 18; I got an Z4,2.0 for my birthday and I got alot of jealous comment, can't imagine what your life should look like from now on
Im 21 noww and I got my M for 4 months now... You just need to learn to drive it. Go on a abandoned road with your dad ( not friends for god sake) and try to get to know the power. It is no normal car!
Be safe, dont overdo the speed limits and do not accelerate to much in corners.

Congratz, and bless parents who buy those cars for their kids ( like mine)

So, be careful, because thats a whole lot of car if it is given to someone who doesn't know how to handle it. just my .02. but congratulations on the license, i know it was the best day of my life so far, and enjoy that hot rod
Braa,comoon... What about M5,M6, Astons, Ferraris, Lambo's, Porsches... You ALWAYS have something to look forward to

Does statistics show you in which cars young people are killed? Im sure if it is in an M5 it will be all over the news and saying 'fast cars and young people blablabla'. But here in Belgium, most young people die in crashes with a tuned Corola,Golf,Seat Ibiza...
If the parents didnt trust/know their son, they would definitly not give him the car. It was like that with my parents...

And maybe you weren't all that smart and responsible on the road?

This is a liability for this kid's father. This kid's dad is obviously made out of money or crazy. Better yet his dad should have got him a Ferrari. He could have broken $1500 on the insurance payment. His insurance payment is most certainly around $600-700/ month, maybe even $1000. What do you guys think the payment is?

You are nuts if you think the car is insured in the kids name. The kids name is nowhere near the title or the insurance.

A ferrari is in a different economic ballpark.

I was going to congratulate you, but your comment about "debating" going to driving school simply shut down any enthusiastic congratulations from my part. There's no "debate" in being responsible at 16 with this particular car, but that's me.

"Good luck and Godspeed" is the best that I can say here...

The insurance payment is alot, but if i take driving lessons it will lower it a bit. THe car has the tech pkg, cold weather, premium, sunroof, extended leather(silver), and the ipod usb connecter-----no 19's

He is exactly right.. one of the first things my dad told me when he surprised me with the car, is " i hope you know i would never get you this car, if i didnt think you were responsible enough to handle it". i think i've shown him that i am responsible from having quads, and dirtbikes... things like that. And thanks for who ever said congrats, and taking it "easy" on me haha

My great aunt was married to the president of Dupont. They purchased their 16 year old son a high powered sports car when he turned 16, and he died in a crash shortly thereafter. Regardless of how responsible one is, the 16-20 journey is one in which a lot of changes occur. Owning a near race car may not be in your best interest.

The other concern I would have if you were my child is whether giving you this now actually reduces your pleasure in the long run. Going forward you will be lucky to get incremental performance gains even if you spend a lot more money. And a lot of the fun is the anticipation and having worked hard for something and then enjoying it.

In spite of the above concerns I suspect you will do just fine. Enjoy the car.

Congratz! I think it is great that you got it for your 16th birthday... I got my 92 m3 coupe for my 17th B day . Its a great car but watch out for dsc off and mdm even in dry conditions especially when it is cold out. I have had 2 scenarios with mdm on and my tail flew out unexpected which is pretty scary. Luckily no one was around in either instance.
