Im looking for some new tires.. I love the PS2 but want a bit more wear. Is their anything that is close in performance but will last longer than 5K miles.

Conti 3's or maybe the Bridgestone RE050A (non Run Flats) or Maybe the RE760

Comfort and Noise are fairly important but just looking for something less expensive than the PS2 especially the rears.

Anyone want to advise? Thanks

Try Generals UHPs, Falkens 452s Alot cheaper than PS2s.

5k??? I already have close to 6k and have at least 50% tread left.

I've got over 10,500 Kms (about 6,500 miles) on my car and have plenty of tread left. Are you sure you haven't been driving around with poor alignment that's eaten away your tread?

As an aside, I've used all kinds of tyres over the years and these PS2s are the best so far, I know I will stick with them, even though a pair of rears costs $1600 here!

Have u got PS2 standard or Cup+ tyres because the tread depth is very different.

I was actually wondering the same question. They're almost $950 after tax/shipping just for rear's at Tire Rack. That's quite pricey. I'm willing to pay it if it's worth it of course -- but I figured I'd chime in here and see what others also thought too. Figured if I could get something just as good for less mise well

The PS2s are the best street tires I've experienced, but the Goodyear GSD3 (or something like that, the max performance summer tire from goodyear) is about 85% to 90% of the PS2 for about 2/3rds the price (same wear, maybe a bit better).

See the car and driver test from a couple years ago comparing the two (goodyear was actually better in the dry on the same car).

Be careful with weight if you go with cheaper tires as some weigh 3-4 lbs more than the PS2s each (according to the specs on tirerack).

I've had the same PS2 that I got on the car 14,000 miles ago and they've done two track days. Time to be replaced though.

I had heard some very good things about the tire. Sticky as hell and wet performance is top notch. I have had many set of Bridgestone S-03 Pole Positions and the word is these are much better. The tire is too new for Tire Rack to have reviewed it, but I expect to see very high marks for it when it is reviewed.

My friend also has Nitto Invos on this highly modded Porshe 911 Turbo and he loves them.

Stock Pilot Sport 2s, Cups would wear much quicker than PS2s.

They are expensive, no doubt about it, expecially here in India, but I think they are worth it.

I've had GS-D3s on my other cars before and I can say that the dry traction is excellent. In my opinion the wet traction on the PS2 is far superior to the GS-D3. Like I said before, PS2 is the best street tyre I've used thus far. Expensive, but worth it imho.

I like the Nitto Invo's as well. I'm loving them so far and when pushing them they handle well. I need to find out how they do at the track still, so I can't compare them to the PS2's there yet.
I really loved the RE01R more than PS2's but they're gone. Have yet to try out the replacement

As I posted in another thread in the wheel/tire section, I went with the Conti SportContact 3 from Tire Rack for my second set of tires and so far they are great. I can't tell a difference in ride comfort or noise. We've had a lot of rain the past few weeks in the area and the wet traction feels very good. I can't say anything about difference in performance compared with the PS2 because I mainly drive my car to commute and I don't go to the track (yet!), but so far I'm glad I decided to go with the CSC3s and save about $500. The wear rating for the CSC3's indicates that it should last longer the PS2. I got about 16k miles on my PS2s before it got down to less than 10% tread, so I'm expecting more from the Contis.

That being said, if you only got 5k miles from your PS2s, I don't think any tire will last you very long.

what do you do though if your rears need replacing and the fronts don't? Mix brands?
Most likely the fronts will still have life when the rears need replacing.

My rears at 14,000 miles are getting close to done but the fronts have about 50% left.

Does that mean I'm stuck with buying another set of Michelins? or is it ok to mix and match?

If there's more than 50% tread on the fronts, I'd just replace the rears if I were you. Similar sort of story to my car.

Don't mix and match. Different tread designs front and rear will result in different handling front-to-rear in the rain. Different tread compounds front and rear will result in different handling front to rear in different temperatures. (Which end do you want sliding while the other end sticks on a 40 degree day? Tough call). You bought the car for its balanced handling, right?

Here's an idea. Maybe you'll like it, maybe not. Replace all 4 Michelins with Bridgestones or something cheaper. But hold on to the front PS2's for now. Watch Tire Rack, Discount Tire and eBay for a sale on the rear PS2's (sooner or later it will happen), and buy them then.

When you wear out your Bridgestones (or 6 months before you are ready to trade your car in or return it at lease end) bring the PS2's out of storage and slap 'em on.

You should only get UHPs or 452s if you want to save money and do NOT care about performance .. AT ALL.. they are crap, and I wasted my money on 452s.... Garbage.. .May be good for some 200HP JDM but not an M3
