Besides, who cares what she thinks. I don't drive my car to impress others.

To the OP: Mods IMHO decrease the value of the car, unless you find the exact right person to buy your car. Many BMW aficionados want to buy a showroom stock used BMW in my experience.

It won't matter in 15 or so years, which is how long I plan to keep this car.

Yep, they probably do usually. To the aficionados, but most people who are not one probably won't even notice the subtle mods I did. Only if lucky enough to find the right buyer might be able to get a little money back on mods.

Yea, this is why I leased my car. I know in three years I'm going to want something new. To try and sell the car in three years would be a huge loss and probably more of a pain in the ass. I chose to lease because it costs me a lot less than buying over just three years and I won't have to worry about trying to sell it when I'm ready for a new car. Hopefully the lease company doesn't pick up on the few subtle mods I made. I'm guessing they won't unless they get pointed out.

Chicks may know cars on the left coast, but I don't think that's true many other places in the USA. At least that's been my experience. Quote:

most on the east coast don't that's for sure A couple weeks ago I had four girls in the car and out of all of them only one knew what it was. Two others said it was the same car their mom had a 328 haha... yea, sure it's the same... of course soon as I stepped on the gas they took that statement back. Plus their friend the one who knew yelled at them and told them they were stupid haha. I found all this quite hilarious from the drivers seat.

There's always the option of buying out the lease and selling. I just watch numbers and when I see a good deal I jump on it. So yes it always matters what the car is worth.

Doesn't anyone care about how many miles on the car, condition, maint, etc? 3-4 years down the road becomes a much smaller issue.

It's Simple...
I just checked the auction sales and all 6-speed coupes have gone for $56-61k in the past 1.5 months. Last 2 transactions in Aug were $56 and $60k.
Based on this it's probably worth $51-55k conservatively. It's probably the most objective answer anyone can give you right now, as it's based on actual sales. If you need to dump your car on a dealer then you shouldn't normally take less than $1-2k below auction, except that you're facing the model year change so some dealers will probably want to go another $3k below to protect their downside when the '09s arrive. Some would argue that you could add $3-5k more for a private party or retail car BUT the value will adjust at the end of the month once we hit Sept for 09 Model Year. I would guess that you'll lose another $3-5k once we hit Sept. I hope that helps. Any other numbers that people might throw out in this thread are probably more of a guess vs. the solid data that I used for my range... Good luck. |

The car still costs that much whether I pay for it or BMW financial pays for it. The dealership gets paid for the car whether you lease or buy. They weren't going to let it of the lot until they had 65k. So I think that's pretty clear on how much the car costs.
