Yep saves weight, adds some power, sounds good, not very expensive.

This past weekend i was talking to my brother who is thinking of an f3x gc or 4or 3. But he always says damn the v8 is just so badass. So i brought up a thought of going e46 track car or 1m coupe and he can take over the e90m.

E46 are still badass. I would have no interior too.

I still have front half interior in. Until I don't drive it on the street at all I'm holding off on the full strip down and full cage, fire supression and such. May never do it though as I like how the car is now and saving 200 lbs won't win me any hpde trophys. Possibly if I do nasa time trials in the future.

here is a video from the other day. think it includes the 1:37:36 which is fastest to date. still think there is more in it as i felt kind of sloppy this day after being off for 2 months. get to hear the new exhaust. no external mic so hard to tell but pretty loud. this is with the windshield mount and closed case.

Crazy that guy runs 1:37s out there too. He has quite a bit of racing experience. Sadly I think my exhaust may have given me a torque dip. Top end is better though. Saw higher entry speeds most places. 136 thru 1, 110 at 3, 106 at 5.

Low end torque? What's that? You should be living at 5k RPM plus!

What's up with the cones in the middle of the track?

I primarily do, but dip down to that range in couple spots at this track.

This track is always set up as a school and has new students all the time. They have gates at some corners that I run over at times including this last weekend. Cones in my line just give opportunity to run alternate lines and stay fastish still.

I thought I was supposed to use that little lever thing that sticks out of the floor by the cup holders but I can try not touching it?

My last oil sample I sent in was about 8 track days and 5000 miles. Passed with flying colors.

That was mostly track miles. I don't daily the car, just drive to and from the track. Had one long trip from LA to Pahrump, NV but I prob would have had more track days on it if it wasn't for that. I just stick to 5k changes no matter on the amount of track days.

That seems pretty long service to me. Glad your oil comes out okay. I will gradually stretch it out once I know I can. I will have maybe 2000 miles again next time but more track days.

Cool. I am always curious how far you can push it. Everyone I ask always says something like 2000 miles or every 3 track days with no real reasoning behind it. It's good to have more real data to know what can be done. That's why I tried pushing it a bit farther then most on my last change and get some data. Here is a link to my analysis if you want to check it out:

Good to know, my builder who races, and is substantialy harder on the car than me suggested the 4 track days for oil change initially for me which seemed quick. I went with 5 which is still overkill apparently. I used to get oil changed once yearly in my e90 but that was more along the lines of you, 5000 miles and at most 10 track days. Last year I had 20.

You are using a much better method than me. I go about 6 events. I count track days at +85 degrees ambient temp as 1.5 days.

With my results I would think your 6 days is very reasonable and you probably could get away with 6 or more regardless of the 85+ temps. What oil do you use? I know an ex-member who has some advise.

Your results are based on facts but your ideal intervals will slowly evolve. Something to keep in mind.

I probably could get more days but the cost of oil is relatively low compared to a engine rebuild. I probably don't have any more rebuilds in mine if I spin another bearing since I've already machine the journals for oversized bearings once.

I use TWS 10w-60. I'm sponsored by a BMW dealer so its an easy choice. In TX, its a pretty good year round oil and, to my satisfaction, its proven to work in 5 other cars with S54 engines that use TWS, 4 of which are still on the original engine and one finally went with 50k track miles. I don't see much benefit in using anything else.
