Engine making ticking noise when cold. Is this normal?

My 2002 E46 M3 has 83K miles and has been babied and impeccably maintained (every required service performed by BMW dealer). I recently noticed during the first several minutes that the engine is running, the engine has a pretty loud ticking noise. The noise always goes away after a few minutes as the engine gets warm. Is this something I should be worried about?

BTW...I had the crank bearing recall done at about 38K miles. Also, the service I had about 12K miles ago included a valve adjustment.
