GT500 itch
Hey guys,
My M3 is out of warranty, and I am considering trading in (i'm also bored). I saw the other thread with the z06 vs gt500 question and it brought me to the mustang. Wanted to see your thoughts on that monster. WOuld any of you or have any of you made the jump? |

Not a fan. I'm sure it's fun to drive, but it's butt ugly.

This thread pretty much says it already - http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=722287
I was going between an M3 and GT500. You can tell I went for the latter. It's cheaper to purchase, cheaper to maintain, far more power, much better aftermarket, and I wasn't planning on tracking it. Just wanted to enjoy street driving. I'm young and don't really need a super compliant ride, not that the GT500 isn't - It is very smooth. I'll worry about having plush BMW interior when I'm older. It still had all the technology I wanted (nav, bluetooth, media center). Both exhausts are to die for, in completely different ways.

My friend's got one, I drove it for a bit. The torque is other-worldly, but, the fit & finish was just---blah. Seriously. After gettin' back into my M3, I felt much happier.
If you're a horsepower freak then you shouldn't be in an M3 to begin with but I'd be willing to bet if you drove a GT500 for a week, then got back into your M3, you'd be grinning. Just my .02 |

Completely different cars. Here are the biggest differences and would be happy to talk live if you want more info PM me. 1. GT500 - Raw power, very quick and super fast - in a straight line 1a. M3 - slower on the power. Not as "snappy". Way more controlled. 2. GT500 - handling is horrible. Needs $1000 worth of suspension before you can even drive it. It is called wheel hop. Do your research. 2a. M3 - well I guess this is a no brainer. Race car out of the box. 3. GT500 - Almost scary to drive and will bite you if you do not know what you are doing. Almost have to drive on edge until you learn the car. 3a. M3 - Way more fun to drive and you know the car can handle anything, within reason, that you throw at it. 4. GT500 - Interior and appointments are, well, it is a $50K Ford muscle car. You get what you pay for. 4a M3 - It is like a luxury race car. Can take it out on a date dressed up and feel good about it. Hope that helped. Go borrow one for a day and you will be over the power, speed and G's in a straight line. |

OP, go out and drive a GT500. Its a fun car and handles fairly well. I drove one but didnt get to beat up on it too much. One HUGE stink is its weight. You can feel it. Since im on couple Mustang forums there are starting to have clutch problems(stock ones). Ppl that track them hate the brakes after about two laps. So if you're into track or mountain back roads or cornering at all you have to consider its weight and brakes. If i were you and could afford a C6Z06 with Z07 package(ZR1 brakes and magnetic ride control) thats the car i'd get. There is just something about a car that weighs less than 3200lbs. Its hard to explain but go out and find one and drive it. Good luck.

I like the new Stangs. That being said, I wouldn't take one over a used Z06. As far as comparing it to an M3, they are in two very different worlds.

I've been a Ford guy since my first car, an 88 5.0. I still own it 2 decades later. I was set on buying a '13 Boss 302 until I looked more into it. I've driven plenty of stangs, including the newer GT's but the dealership wouldn't let the Boss leave the showroom. Shame, they might have sold the car that day. However, I couldn't get over the interior. So much space and so poorly utilized.
The GT500 is better and if you're looking at the '13 you can get most of the amenities that you'll get in the M3 but when you sit down in the car it will be blatantly obvious that it's still, at its heart and soul, a Ford. Unrefined. Still a damn good deal for a 662 hp car though. If the M3 bores you then maybe the GT500 is exactly what you need for a while. I can't comment on the Vettes, I'll never own a bowtie. |

Everybody likes something different. I don't care for the styling of the mustang either. My e90 is beautiful to me while the gt500 is let's say handsome. Lines are chunky and bold like most have been rather than flowing and artful.

Drove a 2013 gt500.. Power was retarded.. Interior ..was blah and handling was blah ..I was much happier with the m3. Not to mention I prob would have had to buy a pair of tacky okleys that matched the strips and the gross interior .. And grow a mullet and buy a couple gold chains !
