Julian Fantino's controversial tenure as the head of the Ontario Provincial Police is coming to an end.

Fantino will be replaced as commissioner on Aug. 1 by Chris Lewis, the Ontario Provincial Police's deputy commissioner.

The changing of the guard, announced by Premier Dalton McGuinty Wednesday, was not unexpected.

this could be great news, however I cant see them removing the BS law, especially not any time soon. It would be a spit in his face, which is well deserved IMO.

I just got back from Portugal. I rented a Ford Focus Diesel and was cruising on a curvy highway with a 120 kmh speed limit. I was doing 140-170 with people in Mercedes VW's Renault Megannes and BMWs blowing past me at 200 kmh. No cops, no hassles, everyone got out of the left lane after passing. It was depressing to think that this would be criminal in Ontario.

I came to the conclusion that it would be more sensible to have a Ford Focus Diesel here and rent an M3 in Europe.

Hopefully with Fantino gone we can be more like Europe get proper speed limits and not be hasseled for minor speeding infractions. I won't hold my breath though.
