I'm Ballin out the A$$. Couldn't care what the gas price is, cause I'm too busy looking good. Anyways my AWD Sienna gives the same mpg (For occassions where I don't want to be Ballin, or don't care about lookin' good).

Stop right there. MPG discussions regarding the M3 violates the Prime Directive.
If you're worried about residual value and/or the price of gas, then you can't afford a M3 anyway. .

This thread was started to determine the long term ownership value of the car considering the price of gas in the future. I do apologize if this irked a few of you here. I only meant well. Thank you. |

I'm seriously considering a Telsa Model S when my lease is up.

Try 9-11mpg!! That's what I'm getting on the x5m , m3 gas mileage is a steal! Or better yet invest in oil futures and make some money to offset

I'm quite comfortable with my M3's mileage (hovering around 15-16)... if it really came down to it, I'd just get rid of my daily for something more efficient.
I don't see anything out there currently for sale that has any revolutionary degree of efficiency. If the next Prius or whatever gets an EPA rated 100+ MPG, then it might be worth considering.

Resale prices for M3's overseas seem to do great compared to their own local, used cars. Perhaps someone from Europe can comment, but if this is true, then it means we have nothing to fear (other than paying more for gas in the future).

Did not have to pay the gas guzzler tax as part of a military sale in Germany...
Able to buy fuel in Germany at US prices... I guess that I am ahead of the game, on both counts! I don't think that the cost fuel will be a huge factor in resale values, aside from removing those from the market, that would have had to stretch to get into one in the first place.

Gas prices up, no problem....in theory
In theory, gas prices go up with demand and a growing economy. If the economy is healthy and growing, People will have more to spend on gas, and the resale value of an M3 shouldn't suffer, IN THEORY.
Whenever I've found myself sweating rising gas prices I think of buying stock in oil and gas companies so dividends will offset my gas pump costs. But I never pull the trigger, so it's not bothering me that badly I suppose. Further an increase of $1 at the pump equals roughly $700 more per year (12k miles driven at 17 mpg ave.). A lot of money but not thousands at least. |

If the gas prices ever go up to the point that I could afford a Carrera S with the difference I'd be saving in gas, then yes, gas prices are relevant...

I have other vehicles, but lately i been using mine as a daily driver since i can't stop using the freaking car. The reality is MPG is more like 17.5 for me on 2,500 miles. Most guys are stating 15 MPG. I think the car can get to 19 but I don't think you will see 22 mpg. The feeling is so much better than the e46 man. I love the car, buy it if you can afford it and enjoy it. If you consider it an investment i think you should keep your current M and wait until the 2013 come out with better gas mileage. Good luck bro.
