New Racing Brake Performance Kit!!!!!!
Hey guys, I wanted to share with you another killer option for our M3.
Racing Brake, made these 4.5lb 4-pot calipers with quit change pads, two-peice rotors (front are 4.5lbs and rear 6lbs lighter than stock)! They do make a larger rotor setup, but I optioned for the std size because of my application. I'm building up an autocross car for STU out of my E90 and this is one of the many steps. The kit comes with lines and everything you need to install. They also give you a discount on pads if you buy them at that time. Everything is hardness tested, build in dust boots, true float rotors w/ vented grooves, SS pistons, powder coated calipers, rebuildable...etc. Here is the link and a few photos for you guys to drool over. Could the rotors be used as replacement rotors for the stock rotors?

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

These are the brakes we helped Racing Brake develop especially for the E9X M3. Raucky2000 is one of the first people who has purchased it. You can order from them directly or from us for a bit of a discount.

We provided a loan of our OEM front/rear brakes to RB for their development (since they're literally around the corner from our facility).
I wouldn't call it "development", just being a good neighbor. Glad to finally see this kit released!

Myself: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showpos...40&postcount=7 Thread started: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showpos...60&postcount=8 THE TECH: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showpos...2&postcount=19 So I guess your product is the racing brake caliper after all. It looks like a great kit. You can use it with the stock rotor. You can use the RB 360 rotor with the stock caliper. This is great versatility. I was searching for a BBK since November and stumbled upon RB way before it was announced in this forum. Lack of history drove me away. Can you share piston sizes? Does the pad swept area match the rotor friction area? Do you have a link to the pad shape (like this one for example which depicts the M3 front stock pads)? Is the pad this one? All the best for the new kit and its lucky owner! |

The link you provided had not been around at all prior to the last month or so since there was no Racing Brake kit made for the E9X M3 until now. We used one of our cars for all the computer measuring for the calipers, rotors and hardware. Racing Brake saw our unique spot in the market and approached me about coming up with a game plan for the E9X community. None of the local BMW parts sellers wanted to get involved so that's when he found me and BPMsport. In regards to the technical nature of the pistons, etc. I will see what information RB wants to publish and get back. |

To answer the piston size question, this is direct from RB website:
"Pistons: Caliper pistons are 40mm and 44mm diameter (two of each). Pistons are made of stainless steel instead of aluminum commonly used by other caliper mfgrs which can substantially reduce the heat transfer (approx 1/10 of aluminum) from the pad to brake fluid. Pistons are vented to further reduce the heat contact area and improve air circulation thereby reducing more heat transfer." I didn't get it all put on today but here are some photos to bring you guys up to speed. So far these are going together great! |

Wow, first time I stumbled on this post. I have some questions though.
Almost all manufacturers are making aluminum calipers with their brake kit, yet RB has opted to go for stainless steel. Is there something that the rest of the world doesn't know? I understand the concept of less heat transfer, but if this was the case, wouldn't Brembo, AP, and the rest of them make SS calipers. In contrast, Brembo 380mm (all araound) kit shaves ~25lbs from the stock assembly. This is having a larger diameter brake rotor too. Looking at the info on the website, the weight savings for a stock size replacement (with 2 piece rotors) are 4.5lbs/corner/front. I don't know what the weight savings on the caliper would be. The price seems phenominal for the value which you are getting. BUT again, this gets me thinking. What does the rest of the world doesn't know? What are other sizing for the the rotors? Any extensive testing on the kits? any cold weather or harsh enviroment tests? Also, I only see front kits, are there any rear kits available? Looks like both 360 and 380mm kits use the same caliper. Wouldn't the contact area be different? or do they just increase the diameter of the hat for the bigger kit? Last edited by Superfly_M3; 01-10-2013 at 05:18 PM.. Reason: last line |

Pistons are SS, not the calipers.

Cool product. Though seems similar in price to a 4 piston BBK. Any advantage of this kit over the others?
And was considering the performance friction direct drive rotors, how do these racing brake rotors compare? Thanks. |

Some of the larger advantages of this kit are the MASSIVE weight savings over the stock setup.
You save ~10lbs over the stock calipers, maybe more to be honest. Plus the weight savings of the rotors are well, they are 21lbs lighter total, so that's over 40lbs of weight hanging at the extreme corners of your car GONE! Their mounting bracket is super strong and light. Unsprung weight and rotational weight are some of the two biggest enemies a car has. It helps the car corner, stop, and go faster everywhere, no BS, it's the truth. "Ask any real racer..." All of the major BBK kits weight about the same as OEM brakes (a little less than std to be fair), which was a big turnoff to me. I DIDN'T BUY THIS KIT BECAUSE I'M CHEAP!!! I bought this kit because I come from a racing history and for my application this IS THE BEST KIT. Built in dust boots so this kit will last on the streets and tracks. NO RUST RINGS, to answer someone's question^ I talked to their service department for hours, trust me, they know their Sh*t. Oh I'm prob letting the cat out of the bag, but someone already asked about. "Why only a 4 pot setup?" Lets just say RB has a surprise for us next season with something bigger and badder (?) for the front end and we can still use the 4 pot calipers on the rear! Sorry RB, but people needed to know that so please DON'T hate me!!!!! Plus now the pressure is on to finish your R&D earlier! |
