DCT stalled
Hello,
I was in a parking garage last week looking for that perfect end spot with a huge pick-up tailgating me. I came around a corner in first, and there was the spot. I stopped, maybe was still rolling a bit and went for reverse. The car stalled. Hit the start button, and it fired back up. Today I came to a quick stop in first leaving a parking lot. Hit the gas to pull out, the car seemed to be in N, although the readout still said first. Hit the shifter to the right to re-engage, then no problem. Anyone else with these events. E

I usually try to come to a complete stop when going into reverse. Can't be good for the car to be rolling forward and then going into reverse.

If I was rolling, the car was barely moving. Even so, the car should not have stalled. Never happened in 5.5 years with the SMG.

Sounds like a software problem

OK, I'll have to be honest, I have stalled my DCT car as well. Twice I think. I thought it was impossible (as it should be). I was clearly doing something a little "off". This really make you feel a bit pathetic - stalling the car that can not be stalled. Some software improvement could be made here.

Just as long as I do not get the big malfunction, or the fluid changed at the 1200mi service, everything is good.

Stalled mine twice so far, have 2000 miles so far. Both times the car stalled while in reverse backing into my steep driveway. I don't think its abnormal.

its the BMW programming that is designed to give you the feel and experience of a manual trans. just like every now and then one would stall a manual trans car. the DCT let you have this enthusiast experience too.

@berniec: My stall was very low speed, shuffling quickly between forward and reverse. Do not recall the exact details but that is the basics. |

The SMG never stalled. I tried to get it, it refused.

I think my next M will be the DCT. One of the SA's said to wait and let them smooth out the bugs before buying

Mine stalled today for the first time was going thru a parking lot in 1st or 2nd and the car just died.
Will keep a close eye on it, but hopefully its just something that will be addressed with a software update |

I've stalled twice total in a matter of 10 minutes. All of the issues (even with SMG II/III) occur at low speeds, as in parking lots. I think it happens when the computer makes the wrong decision about clutch in or out and then can't mechanically correct what the computer is trying to fix prior to it stalling.
I am not and wouldn't be concerned. |
