Stock shifter illumination?

Hey all, does the stock shift knob in our cars light up? or is that an aftermarket install. recently purchased mine not to long ago and it does not light up. Thanks in advance.

Pop the gaiter ring off and check the white plug is connected. It'll take you less than a minute.

update:

I removed the shift boot to check the connectors and i find clean cut wires... two wires coming from the shifter itself are cut clean and the 2 wires coming from within the cars electrical are cut clean with no white connectors in sight.. i am a bit bummed out because i really like the illuminated look of the OEM shifter. i assume the previous owner had modified the shift knob. am i out of luck on this one? do i have to purchase an entire new set up? any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

Couldn't you strip the insulation off the tips and buy some wire-wire connectors?
