Thinking of running Open header for kicks, what the drawbacks?
So I'm throwing around the idea of getting test pipes and a bpm tune, but before I put the test pipes on I'm thinking of running just open header for a weekend just for the hell of it. what would be the drawbacks of this and could it hurt the engine?

Not a good idea..
With no pipes there, you won't be able to mount the o2 sensors, not to mention the potential of burning things under the car.

Install the test pipes and then just add some pipes off those out the sides!
But really...Its just gonna be obnoxiously loud and not sound good. |

Besides potentially waking up to a keyed/damaged car b/c your neighbors (especially those with kids) will be *extremely* pissed and/or getting pulled over b/c of noise ordinance violations.....mmmmm, not much, I suppose.

Had to drive an LS1 swapped car with open headers about 20 miles. It was unbearably loud, to the point where I had to wear shop earmuffs. You'll set off car alarms wherever you go and you WILL get pulled over if you run into a cop.

So, I installed the ESS HFC X pipe this weekend while at a track weekend in Watkins Glen
Halfway through the install, once the stock exhaust was removed, I turned the car with only the headers installed WOW DTM sound FTW. I wish someone made electronic cutouts right after the headers. At tracks without noise limitations it would be pretty awesome |

When changing out my drive shaft I decided to crank mine up and drive it for just a sec with just headers. Car is supercharged so prob a bit lounder but holy shit, I was almost deaf by the time I got home.
You could prob hear the car miles away, its absolutly not usable unless its just on a track and you got hearing protection. And I like lound cars, its just to much. Maybe straight pipes to get the sound behind you would be ok but not just headers under you.
