Shit!!! R19 631-73 ($3721) damage done to my car!

Sunday I went around a 90 degree corner and slid on some sand and my car hit the pavement(water drain) on both left front wheel and left rear wheel.
D.S.C doesn't help you on a large amount of sand on the road because the tire has'n't got traction with anything.

I am heart broken.

Replacement parts are:

Roll over strut
255/40 R17 94 Tyre
Tension strut
Wishbone LH
Tie Rod LH
Trackstrut+R
Wishbone,RR
Trailing Arm
Guiding Suspension
Mag rim 8x17
Mag rim8.517 S

Labour is:

Wheel alignment
Replacing above parts
Replacing runflat tire
Consumables.

Total = R19 631-73 ($3 721)

Atleast the insurance is paying.
My car is out of action, no body damage done just wheels, tyres and suspension damage to the left hand side. The wishbones are bent etc.

BMW parts sure are expensive...

Here is some pics:

Damn. Very sorry to hear of your problem. You're right - sliding on sand is just like being on ice. Even xDrive probably wouldn't have helped. Ultimately, you can't change the laws of physics. Glad to hear your insurance is taking care of it. Hopefully you'll be back in the saddle quickly!

Sounds like you were driving too fast for the conditions. Driving the speed limit doesn't mean that you were driving at a safe speed for the conditions around you. For example; Driving 55 mph on the highway covered with 5 inches of snow isn't safe (even though the speed limit was observed).

If the sand was in the middle of a sand free road then I can understand, but this time of the year sand is on all of the roads and traction sucks. Sounds like you could have been more careful. When people crash by themselves on a 90 degree turn, it only means that they were driving too fast for the available traction. Not to be a jerk but next time slow down.

I hit a tree trying to avoid rear ending someone couple of weeks ago. Total was $3,500. Had to replace the bumper cover, front reinforcement, they had to straighten the frame because it was actually misaligned, new headlight washer. These parts were only about $600 dollars and the rest was labor costs. Next time I will take my car to a non-stealer/dealership repair shop. Thank god my left xenon housing was still operational that would have been $1,500. But my father decided to pay it out of pocket because he didn't want his insurance going up 40% since that would have been my first time offense.

3some,

sorry to read about your freak accident. one important point to always remember first and foremost - you are ok! you are not hurt. the car will be fixed. the accident could easily have been worse. you are infinately more important to many more people than the car is.

glad to know you are ok.

cheers man.

You're a lucky guy, but I think smart, to have avoided rear ending someone, especially in the litigation crazy USA!

Most of those suspension components are made out of very fine manufactured forged aluminum to keep the overall balance of our E90's close to 50:50 weight distribution.

Although it's a very expensive fix, you did avoide body damage, god bless~

Ouch!! It really is horrible to have an accident that can't be blamed on another driver.

Still driving too fast for the conditions. A 90 degree turn? It's a good idea is to look up ahead to determine the conditions and what the appropriate speed is, instead of blindly strafing. Even in perfect conditions a 90 degree turn should be taken at no more than 20mph. At that speed the only thing that will throw you off the road is ice. He was driving too fast and wasn't paying attention.

Just a thought. You might receive more good input if you refrained from gutter language.
