I'd be willing to say that any upscale/exotic car is a an attention grabber not only to other drivers but to cops too. Once they see you're driving a nice car they're more prone to look at you and see how you're driving.

Tom 48 I feel your pain. I live on the niles/chicago border and take milwaukee ave every single day. In Chicago theres not a single peep out of them, once youre in Niles then welcome to the inferno. I use to get crap for my STi due to the turboback exhaust and I have one on my M3 now and nada. Half the battle is attitude after being pulled over. Let them be dicks, just be nice (even though it sucks and you dont want to be) and they may just give you a warning. Its the price we pay for our toys, they just grab attention to everyone and sometimes a nice big pair of titties that needs a ride.

ive been pulled over 4 times since i got the car in september, i know exactly how you feel bro. the last ticket i got was for going 74 on the freeway at 8am on a saturday. there was hardly anyone on the freeway and i saw him get on so i was driving slow before he had a chance to notice me, he slowed way down and tailed me for a mile and pulled me over for speeding and having dealer plates. oh well.

you get tickets in Hoboken? I rarely park on the street unless i'm running into a restaurant, tanning, etc and gonna be quick, but I've never gotten one with the M3 yet, and I double park or park in yellow curb zones along Sinatra drive all the time

took out the countach to the beach once... didn't put on my updated tags and no front license plate (there is no room to put a freaking license plate on that car...) i went to take a piss and I see beach patrol... guys on some gay looking 4x4's parked behind my car so I couldn't leave... they were literally posted out for the whole time I was at the beach, around 6 hours... Finally I see they called the CHP and they showed up and wanted to towe my car for expired tags lol... i showed them I had the tags in the glove compartment and just didn't stick them on yet... he ran the plates and saw it was fine... asshole wrote me for a front license plate though... come on... you know damn right that this car shouldn't have a front license plate... Unfortunately for us, some of them are robocops... break the law... you pay the price...

If a cop pulls you over without a legitimate reason, he's technically holding you against your will. You can sue for that...
They MUST have a LEGITIMATE reason for pulling you over. When I got my ZHP, I got pulled over all the time because the dealer put the drive-out tag in the front window. The windows are tinted at legal limits, but at the angle, you wouldn't have been able to see it. I was SO happy to get the tag in the mail.

^ by legitimate, you mean they only need a reasonable suspicion to pull you over? right? and honestly, the threshold for reasonable suspicion is VERY, VERY low. they'll find something to support their belief in the stop. it's pretty hard to fight.
although i don't own a m3 or even a bmw, yet, cops around my area tend to leave the nicer cars alone and go after the beaters... those mid-90 cavaliers and civics. it's like the police are almost out to get the poor. |

^ you could still file a complaint. That in your opinion, Officer so-and-so did not have a legitimate reason to pull you over...

Unfortunately it's just a fact of life. The reality is that 99.9% of cops will never drive an M car, or a Porsche or anything like that unless they buy a 6 or 7 year old used one. Not trying to be a dick, but that's just reality. So when you drive by in a shiny new M3, some of them get jealous. And most of the time they really have nothing better to do. Also when you speed your kind of rubbing it in their face...........so they get back at you by giving you a silly $100 ticket or whatever it is. I hear in Virginia or somewhere though they've upped speeding tickets to like $600 or something like that. Now that might piss me off a bit.

I've gotten pulled over twice in 8 months of owning this M3. Once for speeding 12 or 13 over, and once for making a legal pass that the cop didn't like for some reason. Zero tickets so far. A military ID has advantages. Being courteous, respectful, and professional goes a long way too.

I'm curious about the people having a bad time in an M3 with cops...do any of you ever consider your age as a factor? I'm thinking if you are young (under 30) driving an expensive car, whether or not the police think "rich daddy bought it for him....I'm going to ticket him for something" because they jealous or whatever the reason. I'm on my 8th BMW in 12 years (6th M car) and I have never been bothered by the police, including speeding, which I do regularly. I have never run a front plate on any of my cars, and have never been ticketed. I'm beginning to think the police are antidiscriminating against me because I'm over 50. I'm just curious whether people think age is playing into this equation. I have been tracking my cars for 12 years also, so I am not the old f**t thinking his M3 is a Buick.
