Why does my m3 rotor cost 10x more than my x5??

because the studs coming out of the hat take more time than the solid disk. and M car.

Maybe there is a cheaper heavier solid rotor available in the aftermarket.

It's a floating rotor with an aluminum hub. Quite a bit more complex than your X5.

FCP Euro sells Zimmerman floating fronts for $250 each, but that is not much savings off the BMW version.

AutohausAZ I think has oem for 250 each. I just changed my rotors

Lower production volume (only used on the M3, M5, and M6 AFAIK) and a more complicated design (floating/two-piece). That being said, it's a huge beefy rotor and will last a LONG time.

This is a performance car so things are going to cost more. We jokingly call this the "M3 tax". There just isn't sufficient demand for the aftermarket to make a generic version. I suspect the Zimmerman and Balo ones are just OEM rotors without the BMW logo.

Mine lasted 20k miles to minimum. I guess the previous owner was pretty hard on them

I bought 2 front OEM rotors for around 430$ i believe, it was a few months ago. I just searched on Ebay using part numbers and it came up from Atlantic City BMW

Buy it from FCP. Its lifetime replacement makes it worth it. But then again, how many of you are actually driving the car into 100k mile range? Rarely.

Zimmerman are just about the same cost as OEM. All of the other rotors that I looked at over the summer were considered upgrades and cost more.

wow, I am used to pay $20-$30 for Miata and S2000 rotors.

surprised that no one make an aluminum center with rotor ring like other makes (aftermarket). this way you just swap out the cheap rings.

what's the diameter of OEM rotors ?
