Lower production volume (only used on the M3, M5, and M6 AFAIK) and a more complicated design (floating/two-piece). That being said, it's a huge beefy rotor and will last a LONG time. This is a performance car so things are going to cost more. We jokingly call this the "M3 tax". There just isn't sufficient demand for the aftermarket to make a generic version. I suspect the Zimmerman and Balo ones are just OEM rotors without the BMW logo.

wow, I am used to pay $20-$30 for Miata and S2000 rotors.
surprised that no one make an aluminum center with rotor ring like other makes (aftermarket). this way you just swap out the cheap rings. what's the diameter of OEM rotors ? |
