test driving the G37

yup you read it right I'm test driving the G tomorrow i got the call from my brother in law today saying he has a demo i can test drive. It's not official that I'm buying it, but since the 335 is kind of out of my price range now, the G is surprisingly affordable and plus i really want a coupe for those fun drives. I figured I'll the e90 for the family (soon to have kids) and when i want some personal time I'll whip out the g. Honestly i don't want this to be a 335 vs G37 thread since theres already 104720370921740471 of them out there so chill out. Anyway I'll report back to those who are interested of hearing how it drives, and since i test drove the 335 i personally can compare them now.

I'm sooooo excited

i liked how it looked in person. it'd be cool if you can test drive it at night. i think the interior lights are very cool.
if you drive a stick let me know how the clutch feels, the current one is horrible (feels like a porsche!), if you drive an auto try downshifting and let me know if you feel a jerk. You shouldnt feel a jerk since it's claimed to be 100% rev-matched.

i have to warn you about the G tho:
1. gas mileage
2. trunk space
3. back seat space
4. paint job -- chips

if you want to buy one just know that the 4-wheel steering is about 200 lbs heavy, sports package is heavy (but is a must), technology package is very cool, and navi is one of the best out there (not as good as honda, i hear).

last thing: make sure you pay extra attention to all rattles, noises, clunks, and weird noises. (drive it with windows down, and windows up)
noises only get louder, and never quieter.

have fun man!

I expect it will drive pretty close to the G35, with a little more top end power. Fully loaded, aren't they about 37-38k anyway? It depends if you're going to lease vs. buy, but if you're leasing the payment for the 335i is not much more expensive, and the gas mileage is much better...also, if you're planning on doing mods to the engine, the 335 gets the most bang for the buck...anyway, enjoy the drive and take pics..

the 07 G35 sedan is a 100% improvement over the old generation, it's just better in every way. So i expect it to drive like the 07 G35 more than the current G35 coupe.
fully loaded will probably be 43k. base is 35k.

335i lease is in 700-800, the G should not be anywhere in that neighborhood. the car is just not worth that much. period.

i think it'll be a nice car, just not a german car

really? if your able to get the price of the 335i to 43k the payment is easily in the $500 range. my dilemma was the high cost to mod the G for more horsepower (supercharger) with no warranty. If you think the G37 has enough power in stock form it's a great car. I definately like the new G sedan better, the coupe not as much. Also, with the new Altima coupe, the G coupe is less distinctive-

the sedan seems to earn more points in my book than the G coupe, that's for sure.

the G37 is really powerful BUT is really heavy too. so the new power addition is almost negated by the extra weight. The current G35 coupe has very similar acceleration (0-60, 1/4 mile, and 0-100 miles) and has identical 60-0 altho the new G37 gets a 4 piston 14+ inch of brakes!

they've done a lot to the G, but they have done a lot to hurt it too. that's why im on a bimmer forum, and have a deposit on a bimmer, not a G.

Altima is nowhere near the G, it wont feel like it at all, even with mods. you have to consider driving dynamics of FWD vs. RWD, interior, quality, leather, and a whole bunch of things.

that's for sure, but 1. he doesnt want a comparison, 2. if you add the money to that (which is his problem) the G might be > 335

yea, i know the Altima is FWD, but as far as looks, they look very similar, so the G coupe is diminished because it's less distinctive while much more expensive than the Altima. Plus, i hate the way they've only upped the power a small increment compared to the weight additions. What they need to do is step up and make a twin turbo version or put a v-8 in it to put it into the running against the 335. And, it shouldn't cost as much as a Skyline

wow, I was thinking of the sedan but I know people have been getting the coupes loaded in the 45k range...what is cool about a lease is that the payments may be very close as with the BMW there is very little depreciation so your payment is less. May not be enough to get you in the range of the family hookup for the Infiniti though. Got to admit it, my 335i was a product of the bro in law working at BMW as well...good luck

I was deciding between the G37 and e92 335i as well. I put down a deposit on the G37 and am looking forward to reviews from the average enthusiast (especially in comparison to the 335i).

FYI from above - G coupes have higher residuals than e92's so a lease payment difference would be even lower than comparing msrp to msrp. Since ejaz looks like he'll get a great deal there will be even more a difference in price. And a V8 or TT G would be great, but it would be set up to compete with the new M3 not the 335.

I dont see what people get out of negative claims towards Infiniti. The G35 sedan is lighter than the 335i sedan, so why would the G37 coupe be heavier than the 335i coupe. Maybe we should just wait until we hear from his review after test drive before we start bashing.

the G35 sedan is about 3500 lbs (not sure of exact number), whereas the G37 coupe is almost 3800 lbs (exactly 3770 lbs)

the car gained about 400 lbs, 51 hp to the wheels (altho new engine only gains 30 hp output, thanks to improved drivetrain) and gained 2 lb/ft torque.

The G37 is just above 3700+ lbs, not 3800 lbs. The previous version was in the 3500+ range (I believe around 3530). It has gained about 200 lbs, not 400. The original G35 (2003, 2004) weighed about 3,450 - that was the 280 HP engine (under the old rating system). The torque curve is also much flatter than the older version of the car. Peak numbers can be deceiving (as we should all know from the 335). The 2005s gained 70 lbs when the Revup engine was introduced. I'm a previous owner and yes, the 2007 sedan is 1000% better than the old coupes.

Overall, the initial reviews are showing it running anywhere from 13.8-14.2 at 100-104. Which is faster than the original (14.5+).
