Compare the weight of the carbon fiber roof with the steel having the moon roof.
Will provide you a good idea of the weight. vz

I'm new to this board but not new to M3's. I've had all iterations and currently roll with E30 and E90 variants.
This thread is interesting to me because I don't track often (enough!) these days...maybe 2-3x/yr and I was considering modding the E90 for some HPDE use. Granted, the E30 is lighter, and cheaper, but its also slower, and basically a rolling restoration project. To reliably track the thing would take a decent amount of coin...just keeping it around as a cool vintage BMW, a lot less $. The E36 back in the day I thought was the "ultimate" Dual purpose car before the E46 even came around. It was faster than an E30, and a lot cheaper to maintain. (no valve adjustments, senors, switches etc) 17" wheels weren't too expensive and you could run with the fastest players. Guess what guys were saying about the E46 back then? you guessed it...it was too FAT and cost TOO MUCH to run. The components were 2x what they were for the E36. Exhausts, suspensions, etc. Not to mention, the car needed a brake kit (E36 you could run with stock brakes and just pads all day long) and the 18" r-comp rubber got pricey. If you really want to wake the car up the E46 even needed 4.10 gears. HUH! that is quite a lot. Fast forward to today, and guys are saying the same thing about the E9x. Now i agree, as a DD it is beautiful but for an occational track car - I am hoping (and others can chime in) that it is quite a weapon with suspension and brake setup. Something that would make even the daily drive enhanced as well. Also - keep in mind that runner "newer" is often a better alternative for guys who can't wrench all the time. You don't have to worry about going through the cooling system, bushings, wheel bearings etc. Just mod and go. |

Pagid RS19 with DIY front cooling ducts (not with backing plate) do very well for me. Summit Main 150-ish down to 40 at the end of the main straight in the summer heat, no problem - and very hard-wearing & rotor-friendly.
Yes, it is slightly inconvenient to swap pads back and forth, but I got it down to about 15 min per corner without a lift.

Hey fellas,
Anyone else other than wwjd15 run 285s / 10.5 ET20 in the front? He has a coupe though and I wonder if the front fenders are any different from my sedan. I might have to bolt my rear wheels up front and figure this out myself ahah |
