DIY: Make an office chair out of M3 Seat

Hey Guys,

Just moved this into the DIY thread. I've been building this for about a month (finally got around to putting it together yesterday and have it at my desk). I made it from an e90 M3 seat that I bought as a pair and pulled out the rails/ motors/ wiring and mounted it to the base of an office chair. I'm going to update the thread with a few more photos of how I mounted it etc.

I made one previously with an e46 seat and have the build thread for that here: http://m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=428840

Let me know what you guys think. Yes, it is surprisingly comfortable!

-Tyler

That's awesome! Maybe you could incorporate the center console as arm rests..? I'm referring to he drivers side of the arm rest where it's adjustable. Would have to fab mounts for them but hey I think that's what it's missing IMO

I was thinking about armrests. I suppose I will use normal chair armrests if I find something that looks good. The M3 center console armrests would be cool. The only thing is it's fairly wide and wouldn't be symmetrical which may look weird. Also, to buy those arm rests may not be cost effective

Awesome! Except it has no armrests. Isn't that uncomfortable? It looks great though! Nice job!

Leave it as-is. I was having arm problems. Tennis-elbow, but I don't play tennis. One day the firm brought in some ergonomics lady. She told me to remove the armrests from my chair. Dangling arms are natural/45 degree arms are not. My buddy and I both did it. It made both of our problems go away.

Enjoy the chair. Looks awesome.

I'm thinking about adding armrests. My hands are usually on my desk/ keyboard anyway while I'm at my desk, but I do think it'll make the chair look more complete

Looks great. Maybe make a few and put them in a conference room with a M3 hood conference table...or a desk made out of a trunk lid. Nice job!

Haha I work at a dealership and have a '12 Competition M3 sitting 5 feet away from my desk.. I don't know how a hood would really work though..
