You should take the time to read the thread if you're concerned.

Yes there is. 64 Times total (factory flashing).

So that means a new car from the dealer that has never been updated will allow 63 flashes (because it took one flash to make the car startable in the first place).

I can bypass this restriction anyway... And the tuning cables allow you to flash as many times as you want with no limitation as they do not decrement the flash counter.

^Thanks Mike. That's good to know the factory limit. I will confirm with Evolve to see if their will not decrement the flash counter either.

It won't using the tuning cable. Both eVolve and I use the exact same one.

Can also update software in cars using the factory ICOM and make it look like the update never happened as well. Meaning I could take a car on 60E software and flash to 240E and have it still show 60E

But this is only really useful in cases where you have Euro/GTS DCT software or programming that's suited for Euro cars here in the US - to hide it from the dealer.

The ECU will also store the history of what was flashed (if updated the factory way). I'll try to make a post later to illustrate this if time permits.

I drove it my friend's 2013 E90 zcp DCT, shift feel much faster and crispy then my 2010 DCT with ESS tune. It was like bang bang bang very fast into the next gear, my feel lagging in a way after I drove his. I have rd sport spings, and his car also feel much stiffer too. my dealer told me there is a recall for my car "DCT software update."

If I do the recall, will the DCT shift faster?
Will I lost my tune and get the check engine light back on again?
Will it matter if I have the newest software or not, if I'm going to supercharge it later down the road?

MY mods BMC filter and 100 cell race cat, straight pipe to muffler.

Thanks in advance.

If the dealer is telling you there is an update to your DCT, you should absolutely allow them to perform the update. There aren't many DCT updates as there are DME updates, so the changes are much more significant.

If they update your DCT it is likely that it will erase your tune, and you will get the service engine soon light again because of your high flow cats. The dealer is not normally able to selectively update modules. Then you can have the car retuned again for more power or to make the light go away.

If you're going to supercharge it down the road, you'll get flashed anyway. So it wouldn't matter on that front if you updated now or then.

I suggest having them do it.

Thanks for the info Mike, I called ESS Roman about this before (few months back), he told me no need to do the update.

I think that DCT updates are always worthwhile - take for instance, the DCT lag recall. That was a major software update that solved a lot of preexisting issues.

Most cars that come to me with slightly older DME software do actually have the latest version of DCT - because of the infrequency that DCT updates are released.

I remotely repaired a car today in Malaysia that was left un-startable after a local shop attempted to update to 231E. Be careful and make sure that you only have a trusted source update your car!

Quick post on Mike.

I had an unnamed party attempt to flash my car. They called me to tell me the flash was not successful and that the car was unable to start. I had the car towed home and tried to fix it using my coding cable - it was indeed dead.

I emailed Mike Benvo, and he responded within 3 minutes that he would take a look last-last Saturday night. The conclusion was that the flash data was corrupted. Mike shipped a cable out to me and last Saturday morning he got the car started. He did not charge me more than the cost of buying his tune.

For now, I am testing the car with a simple tune from him. So far the car is perfect - it pulls more smoothly, and cold starts are much smoother to drive after the cold start delete.

I could not have had a more pleasant experience. When he sends me the final tune I will hit the dyno and see what we can hit. The previous run was 350hp, stock standard. FWIW I care not for numbers, I care for drivability and engine safety, both of which a typical dyno plot do not show well.

I would not hesitate to use Mike's services again.

Thanks.

P.S. Mike, please hit me a PM - I have some questions re the update to the module to avoid the key duplication, and also to have you do the DCT software update for my daily uphill reverse. I am not sure I have enough points yet to send messages as I could not create a new post yet.

Glad I was able to fix it for you.

Btw everyone, there is a DCT update as of 47.1 it looks like.

Flashed a car yesterday that had 231E already and it showed an update available. Specific changes I can't tell you, but it felt great after the tune + dct update.

i must say that i think this famous "tune" seems better for the dct guys...as a '08 6spd guy...it seemed smoother, but also weaker on the low end. initial throttle response right off idle seems laggy and sluggish. it was not like that before.

i've had the update for a few months now and just giving some feedback. what really seems to annoy me is that right off idle, after i engage 1st, the car bogs...to take off from a stop with some authority i need to slip the clutch a little. Seems like they took some timing out of the bottom end...which is why the curve seems "smoother" or more progressive...but i think i prefered it with the original software... oh well

So - we know that 240E and 231E is good software. We also know that both of them can achieve gains when properly tuned. And this is on 91 octane as well

I will be creating a thread shortly with dyno graphs/pictures/videos/ and further information.

Is this DCT update automatically done, or do we need to complain about something?

My car is getting flashed at the dealer in an attempt to fix a SES light problem. I was planing to get Mike's services anyway at some point, but I guess I will soon be able to report my impressions on the new OEM software alone.

Mike, are you able to update DCT software as well as dme as part of your tune cost? Remotely?
