DIY: Spark Plug Change - 2008 E92 M3

Can someone tell me which plugs are which in order? I have misfire on #4 I'm reading mixed reviews on which plug it is. Passenger rear or driver rear?

Passenger side of car, 1 to 4. Front of car is 1, firewall end is 4)
1 and 5 are front, 4 and 8 are rear. Good luck.

I have a 2011 M3 S65 and was wanting to know what size spark plug socket is required in changing the spark plugs?

I just did it the other week and used 2 screwdrivers to get the coils off it was very easy if you just take your time. The tool is nice and I would buy one but it is not needed.

I'll keep that in mind.

So far, I have:
2 screw driver method
ECS trim tools (one is half moon shaped.. might work)
wire hanger method
16ga electrical wire method

None of these tools are needed guys, just give a twist and pull.

+1 for the old suggestion of using a 15mm single-ended code wrench, which I already had in my toolbox. You'll want a single-ended wrench instead of the more common double-ended wrench since it will be longer so you can use it as a lever. I taped various sized sockets under the middle of the wrench as a fulcrum, depending on which cylinder i was working on, and then it looks a bit like the BMW factory tool that looks like it has a sliding fulcrum.

EDIT: Just checked shipping on the BPM site for the heck of it. $17.47 is the cheapest option. Granted I'm on the other side of the country but ouch. So the choice should be clear: Buy from Amazon at 30% of the cost through BPM.

Yeah I did in fact purchase one from Amazon. Scheduled for delivery on 12/19. That pricing from BPM is ridiculous; the fact that try to sell at 100% markup when the OEM sells for half as much is beyond me. Maybe theyre selling 2 pcs lol

So which of these are a tried and true method? I received my tool today in the mail from TxStig "M Division" and it worked flawlessly for the all the driver side coils and 3/4 of the passenger side coils. The PS coil closest to the firewall is a mUthA to remove. I have one more spark plug to change but after 2-3 hours in 37 degree weather I threw in the towel on the 8th plug. I will have to revisit it soon but i need another method to remove coil. I see the OEM tool has a simple yet effective design that gives you the leverage to pop the coil pack. I wont be spending $300 on it however. So I have to come up with another means of tackling this last coil. Or go back to gym and work on my finger strength lol. Any ideas folks?

OK so I came up with a simple way to remove last coil using M Division coil puller and a couple hand tools. See photo for reference


Basically used a 21mm wrench and a socket to provide some leverage to remove the coil. Pretty much the way the factory tool works.

7/8 I removed by hand the last one however was a pita so I needed some mechanical advantage to get it out. Next time around it may come.out by hand but for those who run into the same issue it's a method that worked for me in less than a second.
