Ummm WTF?!? Why isn't there any brake upgrades in GT5? Brake upgrades were in every single GT game. Doesn't seem to make sense to upgrade power without upgrading the braking system.
By eliminating the brake upgrades, GT5 is essentially eliminating the brake fade component in the game, which adds to the realism of game play and one aspect that sets this 'driving simulator' apart from the other racing games. I am very disappointed that after 6+ years of development, they decide to eliminate brake upgrades. Aside from that, the game is very solid and much better overall than the previous versions. On a personal note, I'm also disappointed that I can't get the 135i in Space Gray (Sparkling Graphite Metallic is close enough I suppose), with 7 speeds (even with the upgraded fully customizable transmission, with M Sport 261M wheels and red leather interior hahaha but I guess I'm just asking for too much now. |

Soooo many cars also appeal to enthusiasts and collectors, the amazing and exotic, the good, the bad, and the just plain silly. I like the comprehensive approach it takes to model selections. Also the mind numbing difficulty of some aspects of the game make it a challenge for me. If want to get gold on all of the license tests, you have to work *hard* to get them, although they have given a little more room to earn the gold medals in the more recent iterations. In GT1 you had to run a full lap with razor sharp perfection to get one on the IA license. I think I ran the same lap for 4 hours once just to get the gold car on the one where you drove the POS Miata around the track. Man I hated that test. I've never played one with a wheel, They're just too much $$ for my blood although I'm tempted to get one now. I just wish there was a price point between $50 and $200. +1 on the No brake upgrade crap. And I also am disappointed I can't get space gray on my 135i 8(. -BMW2006 |

that's the thing I don't like about the GT games.. it is such a time investment...
I think it was GT3 where you had the LeMans 24hr race or something? and it actually lasted 24hrs? my bro was playing it and he was in his 10th hour or something, cleaning lady came and she fucking unplugged the PS3 while we were out.. he got so pissed

A couple other things I noticed about GT5, good and bad:
Good: Driving in Cockpit View in a Premium car, the view through the windshield is just insanely realistic. The rain effects (and wipers) are pretty well known by now but what I noticed the other day that I didn't know about before was the glare effects. I was racing on the Grand Valley track and coming out of a dark tunnel with the sun directly in front of me. The reflection of the sun created this blinding glare on the windshield that literally whited out the entire screen and blinded me momentarily. This glare was only in Cockpit View, when I switched to all the other views, this glare did not exist. Very realistic and cool... even though it caused me to crash into the turn immediately after coming out of the tunnel. Bad: When driving around a crowded turn, my car seems to 'stick' to other cars after making contact. It is a very unnaturally feeling that these two (or more) cars are glued to one another. Obviously, when surrounded on all sides, your car is (and should be) stuck but this happens when there are only two cars involved. For example, if my front bumper makes contact with another car's rear bumper, afterward they seem to move together even if I am steering in the other direction to unstick us. Just seems like the body panels have a sticky property to them that feels very unnatural to me. To be clear, I am talking about very light contact, like just rubbing up against the other cars, not huge impacts. Bad: High beams don't seem to be aimed any higher than the low beams. They are just brighter versions of the low beams. My only experience with night racing so far has been the Grand Tour Special Event with the Lamborghini. I have tried to switch to high beams to increase visibility and it did not illuminate any more of the road, just simply intensified the existing illuminated part of the road. |

Reminds me of the time I stayed up all night in college trying to get the Gold trophy on a test. It was the Viper on Laguna Seca (I think it was I-A in GT3 but not so sure), and after hours of agonizing on that one test, I got the EXACT time, to the thousandth of a second, and I thought I had finally done it.
WRONG. It gave me a silver trophy. I almost gave up Gran Turismo forever after that. Fortunately, I beat it like 5 minutes later. Gold on these license tests seems really easy in comparison to the older ones. |

Meh, I could only play one of these games again if I built a full set up. Racing seat, tv, wheel, gas and shifter installed in the correct spot. That would make for a good "arcade game" set up and that would be good to play, but driving with two joysticks is fail.
