I'm posting from my phone in bed, so pardon me for the lack of comparison photos.

When I was shopping for a M3, me and my friend went to the dealership which had a M3 as well as a 335i on display, both were E92.

My friend is a car guy, and right away he made a comment about how the 335i APPEARED to have a lower, sloppier, slicker roofline and windows. I took a second look, and couldn't argue otherwise. It also seemed that the windows on the M3 were taller and more Square-ish.

Is it just us? Or do M3s really feature a different greenhouse shape?

Lmao good one.

Seriously though, I can't imagine the two being different, but that day, they really did look different.

I heard the only common part our cars share with the lesser 3s are the doors.

The M3 shares about 20% of its parts with the other 3-series, so it's much more than the doors.

The e92 3 series and the e92 m3 have the exact same front and rear windscreen and side windows, therefore, the roof line is exactly the same. The only difference between the 3/4 panel of the e92 m3 and e92 3er is the wheel arch.

Both also share the same doors and trunk.

My co-worker has an E93 335i. When parked next to mine, his car looks lower as in it's lowered but he tells me that it's not.

He is correct, the e92 3er with M-sport is lower (road to top of roof) than the equivalent M car. Our tyres are significantly larger in diameter and our suspension had to be "lengthened" to provide sufficient travel and space for wheel movement.

E92 335i M Sport -->1395mm
E92 M3 --> 1424mm
