My dealer makes me sad... a bit.
CA emailed me today that I could have this month's allocation if I didn't want DCT or 19's. Somehow I was once 6th on the list, now I am 10th, whatever. I ended up talking to the sales manager who tells me he wants to get a car out quicker to someone who doesn't want those options rather than having a bunch of delayed production orders. They're nice about it but the policy is bizarre to me.
Same dealer also used their first 2 allocations on cars "not for sale" -- one demo and one for the dealership owner I believe -- in friggin Sparkling Graphite. Black leather for both. Can't even get a look at color options with 2 stinking cars at the dealer. Every car in the showroom is black or grey/silver for every other model; I shouldn't have expected something else. I have MSRP in writing, but perhaps I should look elsewhere and PCD it. My dealer is so annoying about loaners, I'd rather buy it there, but this wait is nuts. Wish I lived in a city with competition. /rant |

Sorry Keto. Have you been following Epacy's and OCkid's progress? They were able to land 112 slots without waiting in line by going out of town. Are you going for DCT or 6MT?

DCT -- I have SMG now and like it. As for the 19's, I like the look and will never, ever have non-forged wheels on a car in New Orleans again.
I also plan to trade in my current M3 (2004, 23k miles), but the runaround makes me wonder if I should put in the legwork and do business elsewhere. |

Well, they may be right that someone could get their non-DCT/19 car sooner without delaying yours, IF you get their next allocation. If they moved you way down the list you have reason to be grumpy.

Same thing happened to me with my dealer. I was on the list for 19's and my number came up. He called me--but when he found out about the 19 in wheel shortage--he called me back stating he would delay my order and give the slot to someone else. My lease is up in April and I had no idea when the wheels would be in--so I gave in to the 18's. To me, the difference between 18' and 19's is minimal and can be changed with aftermarket options. The DCT vs manual is another thing entirely. The problem which you will run into--is that there still is no official word on how long this delay will be.
Good luck.

Howdy K, sorry to hear about your troubles and disappointment. Sounds like equal dose of crappy dealer and BMW crap on the production delays/shortages. I'd switch dealers pretty quick in your shoes. Good luck.

Hello Keto and yeast504,
I am in Lafayette and was #1 on the list for a sedan, which is being built right now (YEEHAAA) you may want to try the local dealer here "Moss Motors". I don't think their list is very long at all. I gave my deposit about 5 weeks ago and last week they started building her. Not that long of a wait time at all. I know the local dealer here won't help you with service convenience being 2 hours away, but if you were anxious to get a car you could probably get one quicker here. Just to put into context though, I did order 18"s and 6-speed. That could have something to do with the quick transition from waiting to building....

I'll probably stay put given tax advantages and stuff. Maybe it will give me a chance to see Melbourne Red in the flesh. OTOH, it's a couple more months for my wife to work me over about sedan vs coupe..

Louisiana charges you sales tax on the difference in price between your new car and the tradein if you trade it in. Given the rate is just shy of 9%, that will add up to be a few thousand dollars, depending. Going out of state to buy makes getting that more of a hassle -- I can't recall if the same benefit applies to private party sales, especially if it occurs on different dates.
