Ricey
I pulled up to a restaurant last night to pick up some dinner and noticed another e92, Alpine white, waiting for food/someone.
I noticed it was modded, wheels, diffuser, and thought about stepping out to meet the driver just to pass the time and BS about cars. After all, it's an enthusiasts type car, figured the other driver might be a cool. After a minute, my back got the best of me. It was a long week and it ended with a long day at work. I was exhausted and didn't care much for chatting things up. So I just chilled in my car. Soon enough the waitstaff brings food out to both myself and the driver of the other M car. As he fired up his M, it was obvious some aftermarket exhaust was also in the mix. It was a mix of a nice bark and growl as the 8 came to life. Guy takes off revving his motor and pulling out very aggressively in a crowded upscale shopping strip. Bad form really. I kinda felt like the guy was dragging me down to his level. With my only participation in this adolescent behavior being that I too was driving an M3. I just took my time and settled my food nicely inside so nothing would topple over or spill. After he was long gone I fired up my car and undramatically drove off. Something had just happened that I couldn't quite put my finger on and define. That is until a few blocks from home a kid in an early 2000's era Civic gunned his motor at me. Revving it with that annoying fart can that sounds like a strained weed eater. Then it hit me. "Ricey" had just happened. Don't get me wrong. I like a nicely modded M, or any car for that matter. But I think what differentiates "ricey" from "modded" is restraint. There's a time and place to gun that motor and chirp those wheels. A crowded street or parking lot isn't one of them. I'm not the safety police. Just hadn't had "ricey" happen to me before. Not in the M anyways. So has "ricey" happened to you before? |

You did the right thing by ignoring it and driving off responsibly. Don't lose sleep over it tho- there's idiots in every make/model.

To each his own... personally, I love Integras but would never go the "ricey" route. However, that's what "I prefer", others like the ricey look.
Lastly, I don't think ricey generally means idiotic drivers... there are some very good drivers out there with some very nice "ricey" rides. |

C'mon lighten up.
I keed. I keed. Your question was rhetorical. Which is why I posted my smart aleck response. Guess it's just my poor word choice. But I think most people would associate "ricey" as a negative connotation. That's how I saw the driver. Associated his, as someone more eloquently stated, "ass-hat" driving with the attention drawn by those in "ricey" rides. |

I don't know but I see gentleman do this with Ferrari or Lambo all the time in downtown Vancouver. I guess it depends what car you drive as to consider is "ricey" or not.

I was eyeing a porsche lately, but I'm a family man. Not sure how well a porsche would fit my lifestyle. And before you say Panamera, don't. I hate the looks of it. I've been looking at making a move to either: 1. X6 2. 5 series (not sure which specific model) I can keep the M but don't think it would get much use, if any. I have 3 different motorcycles and can't keep up with those either. They've been sitting for the past several months. May have to put at least one on the chopping block. Just hate to see good machines sit and waste away. |

I rev my car in crowded upscale shopping districts in hopes of getting some hot college babes all the time. I assume the guy you're talking about was doing the same.

What is the point of this post? Is it that a fellow M3 owner didn't make friendly with you? Or is it that he was able to show off his ride before u got the chance to. All in all I don't think anyone on this board or anyone with a M3 for that matter doesn't drive like that at some point, including the OP.

Wait.. you are complaining about a guy revving his S65 V8 engine in front of the crowds?
Am I missing something here? And you see a guy driving a Civic and automatically think he is "ricey"? I hope you are not one of those typical M3 drivers that I see at least once in a week on the road. |

Does it need one?
It's just a story. Yes. I was very perturbed. Enough that I had to post in the interwebz about it. Quote:
