Recirculation reset in the A/C system

Why does the air recirculation mode resets to off once the car is turned off?

Any technical reason?

Cuz BMW, mine does not too, I don't like it either

I thought you shouldn't keep it in recirculation mode because you won't get fresh air and the carbon dioxide will build up. Just my guess.
