If I did have to buy a used M3, the last thing I would want is an outdated navigation system that made doing simple things more difficult. But that's just me and I didn't buy my car for the resale value either. I don't think it's cheap to buy the car w/o Nav, I paid more for my car w/o Nav than people are paying for the car fully loaded now. It would have just been a drop in the bucket. I knew in advance that I didn't want I-drive, the extra hump, and a navigation system that pales in comparison to a $300 portable device that I could move from car to car.

I'm in the single hump camp for a few reasons.
1. My wife has an '07 X3 with NAV. It's just not that good. I understand that it's different and not as good as the M3's Idrive based unit - but I think my Garmin 360 is way better. And portable. And about $1,600 cheaper. I don't mind spending money, but I don't want to feel like a sucker, either. 2. They seem to intoduce some way cool new GPS feature every couple of years. It's much easier to keep up with the technology with a portable unit. I guess this isn't so much of a problem for people who lease. 3. I tend to keep a car for a long time, and I want to keep it as simple as possible. I've been told that some of the electronics become problematic down the road. I'm not interested in the hassles. 4. I like guages and dials better than digital readouts and touch screens. I'd prefer that my car not feel like a video game. I know, I'm an old school dinosaur. One of the great things about BMW is we can all configure our cars the way we want. I hope they never change! |

The resale argument is so tired and irrelevant. I hope there isn't anyone here that actually configured their car based on this theory. You owe it to yourself to get what you want, and for no other reason than you want it.

I mean I've got my E46 sitting in the driveway next door (no one lives there, its a spec home and its a fucked-up layout that nobody wants) and I keep thinking I should put it up on this board or ebay or auto-trader, but maybe I'm just too emotionally attached to it. I will soon tho, probly, because its costing me insurance money. Actually, I'd let it go for 15k right now if someone walked up to me with the money in hand. Really though, its not a good idea to buy a car with resale in mind. Who cares? I don't care. I decide to buy a car like I decide to have another kid. Its a real commitment. Maybe I'm not the norm, but for me I'll have the car as long as I think I can use it as a reliable daily driver. I don't get this switch-cars-every-two-or-three-years ideal. I mean, this is my iron steed I'm buying here. It's goes til it drops dead (or until BMW offers 0.9% on the successor ). |

seriously. if it's such a huge deal, then i can just sell my used one for 2100 less than the other ones on the market and sell it pretty easily. people who are trying to pick up used models are more influenced by price compared to singular options. either way im enjoying my car just fine without nav.

I would want more than $2100 off the price, to get the NAV installed after, if at all possible would be closer to $5,000 plus what ever other options that were missing because the bigger screen not there etc.
This is all academic anyway because I would not buy a secondhand M3 without Nav not when every other one on the market has got it. How many secondhand white M3's do think will be out there in 3 years all competting for buyers, it will be buyers choice.

I live without it - the aesthitic of a 'two hump' dash killed it for me. The only options I have on my 08 E92 M3 are Premium and EDC...tried to keep it 'pure' and cheap. =)

An if a buyer wants a Nav, I'll throw in a Garmin unit if I had to resell, which I don't since I'm leasing. Have any of you Nav fanboys ever used a Garmin? They're soooo much better than the BMW unit.

Same here - the two hump is unsightly to any purist. I got Leather, EDC, CF trim and 19s on mine. I could have lived without it all, but wanted a few extras.

I personally like my navigation units integrated. The look of a Garmin attached to a windshield is unsightly. Just because some of us want an integrated navigation unit doesn't make us any less purists than those of you that don't. While you believe that the Garmin is significantly better than the BMW unit, I am highly satisfied with what BMW has offered.
